Spydercos you pair with NON Spydercos (inspired by Cambertree) - pics appreciated!

I don't follow any specific pairings. I just carry one folder and one fixed blade in general, so it may be any combination of the items in the photos below.

Busse is a maker (Also related to Swamp Rat and Scrapyard) of high end fixed blades. They are awesome overall, but they do two things I don't care for. Super thick blade stocks and massive sharpening notches.

Its a super slicey .35" thick, or just under 9mm thick. Which is plain dumb in my opinion. The 3-4mm thick versions are nice knives, owned one a while back. Was going to order one of those until I realized what mega meant.

The big chopper I posted above is an old Scrapyard knife. It came with a strange choil, that while large enough for a finger, is spaced too far from the handle. I modifed the shape of it a bit to make it more comfortable.

I've owned and used a lot of knives from these three companies and they're very nice. Swamp Rat even had a folder at one point.

Pits for apples, strings, stuff like that. Elson/ Dipaolo M1V2 for rope, jute, cardboard, all those tough pull cut jobs. It’s a nice aggressive cutter.

My Spydercos (since getting into them in June) are often paired with a Fox 479 Karambit, an ESEE Izula II or a Spartan Blades Enyo. Starting this week, a Cruwear Bradford Guardian 3 will be in the mix for my daily pairings.

Lately I've been pairing my Sandrin Torino with a good, tough knife. Last week was the Cold Steel Mini Pendleton Hunter fixed blade in CPM 3V.

So far this week, the BladeHQ CPM M4 Tanto PM2 has been filling that role.

I've got a thin, razor edge, tungsten carbide scalpel, and a thick, beefy, hard-use tool steel folder in my pockets.

Very nicely paired, I've been eyeballing both of these...

How's the Torino? I doubt you will ever have to sharpen it, but are you planning to and if yeah, how? :rolleyes:

I'm with the other folks for Busse(-kin) fixed blade + Spyderco folder in the woods. Basic 8 + usually a PM2 or Para3 for me:



Hunting, a Benchmade 710 and a Sprig. 710 for dressing and skinning, Sprig for butchering:



And in the kitchen, the K390 Endura has temporarily taken over as paring knife. Usually I use a little VG10 Tojiro but I hadn't owned an Endura for a while, and forgot how good of a design it is - I've been looking for extra excuses to use it. Pictured with a clad SG2 gyuto from Kurosaki Makoto (picture doesn't do the gyuto justice but the light's not great in the kitchen, unfortunately):

Yes, that´s what I mean. Spyderco did not take my prototype CBBL folding spoon and comp.lock folding fork over into production yet, so they´re technically not Spydercos ...

Oh I'm counting on having to re-sharpen it at some point; nothing stays sharp forever. But yeah it will most likely be an extended chore. :rolleyes:

From all the information I've gleaned, it seems that the best way is to use fine grits and take your time. A coarse stone will very easily chip and damage the apex. So part of the key, I think, will be to not let it get too dull before re-sharpening.

Obviously only diamond or CBN will scratch this stuff, but I do have a goodly assortment of both diamond and CBN abrasives, so I don't think it will be all that bad. It can't be THAT much more difficult than say CPM REX 121 or Maxamet.

I'm thinking about doing an ongoing EDC "journal" in the Off-Topic forum for those who might be interested in how this material reacts and behaves in everyday use.

Haha, yea that crazy one is more for show and just stays in my truck. It's pretty far out though and actually fairly comfortable in hand gripping it blade up or down. Not the best for edc though! :p
