Caught one from SMKW. Refreshed here, then ran down my tabs just in a spare moment at work. Saw SMKW in stock about 5 mins before it was posted here. Seems like as soon as it hits this page they get snatched. Keep refreshing and don't give up folks.

I don't think it matters how many they produce for a run, they are going to sell out in minutes. I would love to see a production version.

Told you so...

As soon as I saw the Cru-carta Shaman, I thought a production Micarta Shaman was an inevitability. Just a matter of time. I'm impatient so I chased and got one of these Z-Wear Micartas thanks to this thread!

Difficulty in getting blades this year has really put me off. Idk if I've even a collector anymore since I haven't collected anything recently. But it's not just Spyderco

Don't lose hope. From the reports I heard, each distributor only received like 5 in the initial batch, with significantly greater numbers being released in a couple weeks.

One can only hope so. But I gotta add: this is the very best strategy to frustrate buyers....

Never made a bot to buy stuff online, but I would bet that this is a good place to start.

I heard the same from another dealer. They got 5 in the first batch, but didn't post them because they have 30 more coming on Wednesday. They said they will probably post them all together then. This is a small dealer as well, so dealers like DLT and BHQ are probably looking at 100+ in their big shipments this week. Best of luck to everyone!

Fair point, but only buyers in the intersection between "informed enough to know that some came in" and "not informed enough to know that very few came in, with many more to come."

As steelcity said, it's up to the dealers to decide how they want to run it:
1) Take pre-orders and ship the first 5
2) Take pre-orders and don't ship the first 5
3) Don't take pre-orders and list the first 5 online
4) Don't take pre-orders and don't list the first 5

As buyers we'd only really be seeing those dealers taking option 3. On the whole, an uninformed consumer wouldn't notice that blip, and would really just see availability when the full stock rolls in.

Still a luck of the draw moment. No such possibility for us living outside the US timezones. Drops usually happen in the dead of night or wee hours of the morning here. Can't spend a whole month being sleepless just for this drop.

I agree with this statement wholeheartedly. I love Spyderco products especially the shaman, and use the plain edged s30v everyday as an EDC. I've carried quite a few blades and love everything about this knife more than all the others. I think the frustrating part for all the potential buyers is that this knife may not be available to them. My opinion is this is the best knife for the price but ultimately if they decide to only make 1,500 or 3,000 then they're simply not available for a majority.
I think this is the thing frustrates me the most. When you have a product with a high appeal and demand and the manufacturer only makes a limited number. How is this good business when they could easily sell another 10,000? But maybe that's what they want.

The problem is production capacity at the moment. Until they can expand their capacity with a larger factory, machines, and most importantly talented and capable employees, we are limited to what they can crank out in a year with the resources they have. This has obviously been exaserbated by covid. So for them to say make 12,000 Z-wear Shamans in a year to meet demand, that is 10 different models of Sprint or Exclusive 1,200 piece runs that get delayed even further or shelved altogether (probably why sprints are few and far between these days). I'd personally rather see the variety, but I do agree that these Cru-carta models should be production models. I'd rather see them retire some models that have been out there for awhile like the S110V series and replace with a Cru-carta series than to hamper the churning of Sprints and Exclusives. If people.start complaining about the lack of S110V models after the dealers sell through their existing supply, there is nothing to say that there can't be future models with them down the road when the demand makes sense. Being more nimble to keep up with the current trends like Micarta, Cruwear, K390, Rex45, etc would probably be something to look into.
