Moran FB in K390?

Who’d be up for the Moran FB01 and/or FB02 in K390?
I don't get people who only carry one knife :thinking ;)

I don't think I could pass that up. I'd prefer a southfork but k390 is k390.

Would rather see a full tang version with some nice scales, but If K390 is at least as stainless as VG-10, I'd get one. Otherwise, no thanks.

It's not stainless like VG-10.

Hmmm. I think I'd rather have LC200N. But K390 is worth thinking about.

Not to rain on my own parade, but I realized that the Morans are done by a different Japanese maker than the one producing the current K390 models. They may not be able, or willing, to work with K390 :( This would apply to the Perrin Street Bowie & Street Beat, as well. Only Sal/Spyderco can say for sure

Ah well. On the bright side, more money for ammo. :D

At a $1+ per round, not much ammo. :(

We'll likely see this before we see the likes of LC200N or AEB-L. I think that is a mistake, but things seem to sell well to "single column superiority" steel junkies.

The more fixed blades the better!
I don’t know that K390 is my first choice, but there’s a number of steels which would interest me from 52100 to s45vn.

This goes along with my desires of having many of the old school models brought back with a "face lift" of sorts. That would be to have a newer/better blade steel and maybe even another handle material ( where applicable).

The models from what I affectionately call Spyderco's Golden Era ( 1998-2004) were still some of the best designs yet IMO. And with newer/better blade steel you essentially have a completely new model in some respects.

Based on tang stamps this looks like a Moki knife. They have so far worked with HAP40. Not sure what else they can do.

Yeah, Moki seem to be pretty conservative in their steel choices.

I’m not sure they’ve even produced a monometal ZDP-189 knife recently, although I could be wrong of course.

Personally, I think Golden might be contenders for future use of K390, although they seem to have a full capacity production schedule for a ways into the future, Covid restrictions notwithstanding.

Taichung seem to be able to adapt to working with any steel that Spyderco want to use.

I think these makers might be more of a possibility for future K390 fixed blades than Moki will be.

Not to derail the thread, but a ‘Rusty Waterway’ :p :D in K390 would be very cool too.

Considering all (?) of Spyderco's knives from the Chinese maker are 8Cr13MoV I don't see how they would be able to work with K390 or at least how the Bow River pricing could be maintained with using it, which is essentially the whole point of the Bow River. A sprint of the Sprig in K390 is much more likely.

I have been outspoken about this enough but I obviously don’t want the K390 Bow River made in China. They were able to make the Waterway in Golden for a decent price. That is what I would like to see with the Bow River. I’m beating a dead horse at this point. I should probably throw that idea in the same pile as my Crucarta Proficient and Maxamet Military. :)

As a Phil Wilson designed knife I assume the whole point of the Bow River was to be a high performance game processing knife. As the Southfork showed us the mass market was not into that so we got a decent performing budget knife.

A Sprig in K390 would not be a Bow River. I have used my sprig on a deer and didn’t like it. On fish, waterfowl and small game it is good. I like the Sprig but am not eager to buy another even in K390.

I'd buy any PW design in K390 (I actually own a Smoke Creek in K390, and it is my all time favorite knife), but I think I've seen Phil posting here that he would like the Spyderco PW collabs to stay in s90v (not totally sure of that, though).

I don't really need a Moran in LC200N, because the Waterway fills that niche for me nicely.

Darby, have you used the Southfork for game?

We have asked the maker to see if they can work in K390. We're waiting on their response.
