Peel ply scales

#1

Post by noddy »

I looked but couldn't see a thread on this ... although I suspect there must be one.

Is there a place that people try and find homes for their old peel ply G10 Spyderco scales after they have bought, say, new, custom aftermarket scales for their knife?

Looking to replace the jade scales on a M4 Military. Plain ol' black G10 would be just fine :)

Thanks for any directions

You can try eBay or maybe the WTB section on bladeforums. Otherwise just get some black (or blue or red or other dark color) RIT dye and dye the Jade to black. You can google the procedure. It is very simple.

It will be cheaper and easier to die them.

You could easily sell your jade scales on EBay or BF or wherever you do your buy/sell/trade.

Mine go back in the box for long term storage in case I ever change my mind.

Ah, of course. RIT. Thanks very much, both :)

Does RIT give a permanent finish?

Blades We Love sometimes has stock scales up on eBay as they do business by removing them and adding custom machined scales. I got a set of stock black G10 scales for my Manix XL M4 through them for $25. If I ever decide I want another color I'll probably just rit dye the natural G10 scales it came with originally.

It eventually wears out over time, depending on usage.

I do this as well. I prefer mods that can be returned to factory configuration.

I got a set of black oem g10 scales from him for my BHQ M4 Para3. “Jade” scales went in the box.
