Has anyone else noticed that there are between 50-100 forum members having 41st birthday today?

Is this a glitch?

Interesting. How many members are there in total? With 20,000 members, you'd expect around 55 birthdays each day, all other things being equal.

I noticed that. And their forum names all consist of a pronounceable nonsense word followed by the number 1.

You should have seen the list for January 1. There was probably twice as many "birthdays" on that day. I don't know if it's spammers, or a software glitch, or what.

Of the 20,000 forum members, probably only a tenth have ever posted, and of those, probably only a tenth have their birthdays listed.

I was still swimming around with my dad while my parents were building their first home, in preparation for this bundle of joy :p

But really, this is pretty crazy! Has to be a glitch of some sort.

I just did a quick spot-check of some users that (in theory) turn 41 today. None of them have any posts. And I don't recall ever seeing those names in the "who is online" list.

So my guess is that they were creating via a bot to spam the board and for whatever reason, the bot used 20 Jan 1980 as the birthdate for the user.

Think a lot of the "Jan 1" dates are folks who don't want to put in their actual birth date. This many on any other day, especially all having the same year and a consistent pattern in their names, have to be the work of either a single bot/scammer/spammer or someone from Spyderco's IT team setting up test accounts.

I turned 17 in 1980. It was great being a teen in the late ‘70s/early ‘80s.

I’ve never listed my birthdate on any forums I’ve participated in.

It's a fact not well known except to those in attendance, but exactly nine months earlier was the 1979 Knife Collectors' Blade Exchange and Drunken Orgy. It appears the acorns don't fall far from the tree.
