The axe was a Christmas gift from my very special wife. :)

That looks like fun.
Sure was!
Having kids and bringing them along in the outdoors, passing on the appreciation and skills, has really reopened my own eyes to the pleasures of simple outdoor life.
Used to be chasing the highest mountains, the longest trails and other extremes, but that’s really no requirement to have a good time.

That doesn’t look like to bad if a day either!
And of course enhanced by a good axe. I’ve got to admit, the Swedes know their axes. Have a couple from the Hultafors premium line, and consider getting the Gransfors Outdoor axe.

There is something about going out into the cold winter woods and starting a fire. :)
I don't have a ton of experience with axes, but this one is by far the best I've ever handled. It is so sharp, and thin. The axes you buy at department stores today are a joke - they're so thick and obtuse it's like trying to chop with a splitting wedge. Not so this! It really bites in. I was cleanly slicing 2" branches in one blow.

That’s very interesting, can you explain whats been done to it?

In my experience the factory grind works well for batoning, but leaves something to be desired with regards to whittling and carving. I’m not really impressed by how it’s processing fish either, but that’s probably just a sharpness issue. It wasn’t typical Spyderco sharp out of the box, and I haven’t gotten around to resharpen it yet.
I don’t expect it to shine in every discipline, but a wee bit better for wood would make it a near perfect all rounder for my use.
This is the message that I send to Wartstein earlier

,,The main reason I did the regrind was that the secondary bevel was going bit too high for my taste.
I have a simple belt grinder at home, so I took the knife to the grinder and basically I blend the secondary and primary bevel into one slight convex bevel. And while doing so, I also thinned it out a it, I would say it is like 20-30 % thinner as out the box. Of course, while doing so, the blade was cooled in water.
Spine of the knife is still more or less the same thickness as it was, but the distal taper is a bit more pronounced.
Then I hand sanded it to I guess 220 grit. One problem that I found is the plunge line. It has hard 90 ° corner and it is pain to finish nicely. So after some handsanding and cursing I call it good enough and leave it with those some scratches. So what I had after doing so was one slightly convex bevel to almost zero edge.

After that, I hand sharpen it to around 17° with 20° microbevel. Not sure how much time I spend with it, but I tell you, the difference was there. When cutting something like a onion, the knife goes into it much smoother and efficient, probably because there is no real hard transition from secondary to primary bevel.,,

I just want to point out that my belt grinder is not a ,,pro,, grade and it cuts in a slight convex way, so its near impossible to get a straight primary bevel. It will be convex no matter what.
Main bulk was done with 60 grit ceramic belt, rest was hard manual handsanding. As I wrote, the main problem area is the plunge line, because of that hard 90 ° corner, which is hard (for me) to finish.
Can you do it without the belt grinder? Maybe, with like 60 grit diamond / silicon carbide stone and a TON of time....but I would not do it for any money in the world (well, ok....maybe). You have to take some metal away when you want blend primary and secondary bevel to one convex, and it will be quite long process without power tools.

I am happy that Wartstein is happy with this knife. Waterway is great desing, Lance Clinton did a great job on it.

To be not 100 % off topic, I am carrying a Manix 2 REX 45 G10 today.
In the pocket: Chaparral FRN, Native Chief, Police 4 K390, Pacific Salt SE, Manix 2 G10 REX45

Thank you, pancake!
I don’t believe neither my confidence or equipment is up to the task just yet, but I’ve saved your instructions for when that day comes.
I might even do it, or something similar, in steps as things progress
