2021 Forum knife?

#1

Post by Doc Dan »

What can we do to get a forum knife?

I want a knife most of us can buy and own legally. So, a UKPK in 204P or even SPY27 and G10 would be worth considering. I want a Golden made knife.

Do a poll. I nominate the Dragonfly 2 Wharnie in a special steel.

Endela with g10/micarta scales. Any steel other than vg10. Endela, Cobalt blue g10, and Spy27 steel would be fine with me. Endela, any micarta, and 4v would probably be ideal for me. If I have to propose a particular micarta, polished maroon linen sounds good to me.

That would be cool.

If price doesnt matter how about a spy27 military.

I'm in for anything made in Golden with earth tone scales. :-)
I'm happiest with Micarta and Tool Steel.

Top four in rotation: K390 + GCM PM2, ZCarta Shaman, Crucarta PM2, K390 + GCM Straight Spine Stretch.

Sooooooooo if I was a quasi citizen/open air prisoner in the UK (I love the UK and lived there as a kid) I would want a knife that has a folding wing nut on the pivot to have a “super friction folder” knife Technically it is not a lock, and, is a good way to get around the no locking knife bit. It would have enough mechanical advantage to clamp that sucker open and shut. I name thee, “Wignut” knife! “Jeeves, file my patent papers.
Patent pending...

If it was a forum knife, I would think it cool to be in an unreleased steel to make it special. Uddeholm Vanax SuperClean?

Let’s mash these two ideas together, Vanax Military 2 Salt. Boom. Probably won’t happen but I already want 2. :D

- From a totally selfish point of view (since I can legally carry whatever I want here): I´d be in for that Spy 27 Millie - I really miss the Military I had more and more, and a forum-knife-version of it would be a perfect replacement!

- Generally: I literally just don´t know if a smaller, non locking and by that legal in as many places as possible folder is the best choice for a forum knife: Do members who live in areas with crazy restricting knife laws really want a forum knife they can carry legally, OR rather a model they really like the most, but can´t carry legally (but will do so anyway or just at home)?!
As said, I can´t tell, since I am lucky enough to not be bothered by silly restrictions concerning folders.
Top three going by pocket-time (update March 24):
- EDC: Endura thin red line ffg combo edge (VG10); Wayne Goddard PE (4V), Endela SE (VG10)
-Mountains/outdoors: Pac.Salt 1 SE (H1), Salt 2 SE (LC200N), and also Wayne Goddard PE (4V)

I’m somewhat new to the forum, so if you don’t mind me asking, are there any guidelines or “rules” forum knives have to fit within?
Can it be any Spyderco, collaborations and “in-house” designs alike?
I don’t really have a preference at this point, because I don’t really know what’s already been done.
Maybe Spy27 steel is fitting, but that’s all I’ve got for now.

Golden made, Spy27, UKPK would be great, but if a locker would be more popular I would vote Native Chief.

Me too, that sounds great!

(Sorry Paul, but a forum kitchen knife sounds like a lame idea to me personally.)

Have a look at this thread/post: viewtopic.php?t=81502#p1272679

I copy/pasted all the forum knives listed there below, Spyderco forum knives in bold letters (don´t know a lot about the other forums).
So three of the early Spyderco-forum knives where Japan made as far as I know (Vesuvius, Adventura, Lava), all others in the US. All the US models were "in house designs", while the Japan models were collaborations I think.

2000 - C36 Military - black G-10 with pearl bug - CPM-440V PE (spyderco forum)
2001 - C41 Native - blue G-10 - CPM-440V PE (bladeforums)
2001 - C41 Native - blue G-10 - CPM-440V SE (bladeforums)
2002 - C66 Vesuvius - burgundy FRN - ATS-34 PE (spyderco forum)
2003 - C78 Native - blue FRN - VG-10 PE (spyderco forum)
2003 - C77 Spyderhawk - blue FRN - VG-10 PE edge (bladeforums)
2004 - C94 UK Penknife - black g-10 - CPM-S30V FFG PE (british blades design team edition)
2005 - C102 Adventura - steel engraved - VG-10 PE (spyderco forum)
2006 - C110 Lava - steel engraved - VG-10 PE (spyderco forum)
2009 - C41 Native - purple FRN flat ground - CPM-S30V PE (spyderco forum)
2009 - C10 Endura - toxic green FRN with black blade and wave - VG-10 HG CE (USN forums)
2011 - C17 Catcherman - toxic green FRN with black blade - H-1 HG CE (USN forums)
2012 - C10 Endura - olive green FRN with black blade and wave - VG-10 HG PE (Bayou Shooter forum)
2012 - C101 Manix 2 - glow-in-the-dark G-10 - CPM-S30V FFG PE - (EDC forums)
2012 - C101 Manix 2 - glow-in-th-dark v2 G-10 - CPM-S30V FFG PE - (EDC forums)
2013 - C41 Native 5 - glow-in-the-dark G-10 - CPM-S35V PE (EDC forums)
2013 - C41 Native 5 - dark green diamond texture G-10 - CPM-S110V PE (Spyderco forum)
2015 - C95 Manix 2 XL - glow-in-the-dark Kirinite - CPM-S30V (EDC forums)

Thinking about it:

Maybe a special version (steel, handle color...) of the great Rock Jumper?!
Or, even better: The first iteration of the LEAF Jumper could be the forum knife...?
