I've really enjoyed having my first favorite spydie in the rotation again.

I've thought about putting maxamet gray scales on my DLC Para 2, this picture makes me want to do it even more.

Cold, rainy, and muddy day at the barn. Still far superior to sitting in an office.

From the seconds sale?
I'd be interested to learn what you think of Maxamet in use and sharpening, and how it compares to K390 and other steels. I really like Maxamet myself.

Yep. After handling that and the DLC I realized I'm more interested in having one around more for nostalgia more than anything. PM2 is a nice model but its not gonna get much pocket time compared to the Police / Manix / Millie.

I'm debating whether to use the maxamet one just to expirement with the steel or put it towards a new spydie fixed blade or something.

Being outside is indeed almost always better than sitting in an office... :)

Really nice Micarta scales!! But do they take away a bit of the regular Shaman handles comfort (more chamfered and rounded?) or not?
And: Are the black spots towards the tip of the blade pitting or just residue from stuff you cut? My Rex 45 Manix, despite being used also in wet / moist conditions and occasional fruit cutting and never oiled, still shows very little pitting, and if, it is more red than black.
Anyway, I really love that steel.

My FIRST (!) Spyderco arrived yesterday from the online shop. I got the Efficient to "try out" the brand and I AM HOOKED!

... although I think I gave myself arthritis, carpal tunnel, and possibly rickets learning how to "Spydie-flick" it. :)

You're right, they aren't as contoured as the factory scales, and the corners aren't rounded off like they are on the terotuf scales I had before. It's definitely a bit of a trade-off because I like the feel of the micarta so much. But even without the contouring, the Shaman ergos are still excellent. Perhaps I'll try to round off the corners myself someday.

And no, the black spots are just gunk from cutting open a dusty horse feed bag. I haven't had any problems with corrosion on rex45, although I do clean (and usually oil) my tool steel blades at the end of the day.
