Yea I instantly thought of fake as well. He spent $120 on it, so it sucked to tell him...but, it's the same guy that I posted about here... viewtopic.php?f=2&t=87646

I guess he just doesn't learn! Should know he can come to me with any questions prior to buying something! Even if I don't know the answer, I know I've got all of you to fall back on.
Tell him to just give you the money and let you buy him a real spydie lol

I think those are AWT aftermarket scales. I have a pair for another brand and they are fantastic. It also looks like a forced patina. It is genuine and modded.

Any chance of a pic of the paperwork?

Knives like that make me wonder why I don't spend every nickel on mods.
You had me LOL with that!

Personally I think the term “custom” gets thrown around excessively. Most things labeled “custom” are merely modified.

Bedazzling your 90s F150 with every stick-on part out of the JC Whitney catalog does not make your ride custom; it makes it suck.

Don’t JC Whitneyfy your Spydercos!

OK, you got me. It must be a real S90V blade (meaning you’d have to buy a $200-$400 Spyderco for just the blade), those fancy mods to the blade ($40-$50 worth?) and modded AWT aftermarket scales (I’d guess what $80-$100?) - all for an amazing price of $120! :D

Oh wait, I forgot about that sweet lanyard and bead (also not from Spyderco)... ;)

(I don’t even know what the price would be to change that ricasso line. That’s a seriously good modder!!)

That's funny, when he sent me that picture from his work area...I thought HE actually took that pic I posted, so he just forwarded it. But yes, that's the one he's got! So they make more of these, it wasn't just one "custom"?

Saw it on one of those knife groups on Facebook Rick...no wonder the blade looked familiar, I saw it here first from your post.

Wow, I don't think I've ever seen this much disagreement on the forum over an "is it a fake thread". I definitely don't have an expert opinion to offer, but if I saw a pm2 for sale with all those mods and an s90v blade for only $120, I would be incredibly suspicious.

I second all of this.

To me, it looks good. I'd keep it, no matter the steel...hopefully S30V or better.

That's the biggest giveaway right there. A stock used PM2 in S30V would cost about that much. As already stated here, getting the S90V blade would set you back a tremendous amount, plus the cost of the scales and the coatings. Anybody who is doing that modding will certainly know what their knife is worth and they won't be selling it for 1/3 of its value.

Hmmm I would say, IMO, that Spyderco hasn’t put a worse steel in the PM2 than s30v.

Also, the more I look at the pics, the less the pocket clip holes look like holes. They just look like black dots? I guess maybe it could be a poor image resolution thing. But they look sorta like “drill here if you want the pocket clip here.”
