Official plea for a Rock Jumper XL

#1

Post by Evil D »

I was just fiddling around with my Endura, and it really hit me how much more I'd like it if it were "Rock-Jumper-ized". It would be an immediate favorite. Make that same knife in FFG LC200N and it might just replace my Caribbeans.

i would love this as well. although, i'm good on salts (something i never thought i'd say, but i no longer live in hawaii), so i'd like to start trying other steels again, stainless and tool steels. i'd really love a rockjumper (and xl, if possible) in the damascus/black and grey zome that the delica and endura got recently.

I handled the Rock Jumper at SFO recently and was really amazed by how comfortable it is in hand. Felt immediately comparable to a Stretch except just a little bit smaller and that really seemed to fit my hand that much better. I probably wouldn't buy an XL version with how well the current version felt for me but I definitely understand the desire for larger version.

My favorite part about the knife though, was the lack of jimping on the thumb ramp. The knife still felt locked into my hand without it, there was just less there to cause a hot spot.

I'll buy one. I have been carrying the SE Rock Jumper since it first came out and I really like it. I normally like a "Lil" version of my favorites, but in this case an XL would be pleasing.

I wouldn't be opposed to a smaller Native 5 sized version too.

I’m an advocate for a Rock Jumper XL. The only reason I haven’t bought the standard variant is because I have enormous hands. Everything about the design I dig, except it’s too small..

Same here. It looks like it'd be an ergonomic upgrade over the Endura if it were scaled up in size.

I love the rockjumper so far, and the endura is still my favorite knife, so I’d definitely grab an endura sized rockjumper. Sounds perfect to me.

If it leads to a leaf jumper xl then that would be good too.

I don't know that it would beat the Caribbean. But, it would certainly match it.

If it had the same grip pattern as the Caribbean, it would possibly win.

It does seem like a good idea on the surface. This could be the makings of another thread because the Rockjumper isn't the only model I would like to see a bigger version of.

There also needs to be more big models with teeth as well. I'm sure the author would agree with me on that one :D

The Rock Jumper had instant appeal for me, and I like it even better after carrying it exclusively for the last month or two. I could dig an XL but my druthers would be for a Leaf Jumper in a different steel first.

Like some here I´ve wished for a Leaf Jumper XL in several threads already,

While I really like a wharnie-blade in the smaller Rock Jumper size, I´d prefer a leaf shaped blade in an Endura sized knife.
Or actually even more so a blade shape that offered a long, totally straight section (like a wharnie does), but then some belly towards the tip.

As others have said: A Leaf Jumper XL could finally be kind of a back lock Caribbean, and that in FRN (for me a bonus)!!
Since the comp. lock actually is the only thing that keeps me from getting the current Caribbean, a backlock version would be amazing and could even become my favorite folder.
Top three going by pocket-time (update March 24):
- EDC: Endura thin red line ffg combo edge (VG10); Wayne Goddard PE (4V), Endela SE (VG10)
-Mountains/outdoors: Pac.Salt 1 SE (H1), Salt 2 SE (LC200N), and also Wayne Goddard PE (4V)

Rock Jumper XL would be cool, but a "leaf jumper" is what I would actually be interested in!

Yes.
Yes and yes.
RockJumper XL with 3,5-3,8 inch blade would be EPIC! Even better with leafshaped blade.

Not really anything complicated, I think the wharnie/leaf blade combo is a great idea, just bump up the size to about a 3.75 inch blade. I think once the Leaf Jumper is released you'll see an increase in interest. Wharnies have gained in popularity recently but I think most people still want a more typical blade shape.

i think this is absolutely true. it's a winning handle design. i would even love an endura/pac salt with this type of handle instead of bumps telling me where to put my fingers. look also at how much love the caribbean gets from anyone who gets one in hand. it's a much more comfortable grip than the delica and/or endura.
