I had a moment of weakness....I ordered a Paysan...
HA! Just earlier today saying you were done after the SpyOpera (proceeds to buy a $315 knife) :p
I know I suck at resisting :D

Two years ago I said I wasn't going to buy any more knives. What a joke that was! haha

Just more disappointment. I got on this one very early but the website absolutely will not let me check out. I have to try like 10 times and when it finally works the items I want are sold out.

Can a website not limit the number of people trying access it? Also the word cart should be changed.

So, a $158 order becomes a zero dollar order. You guys have fun here.

Yeah no kidding. I got to work, still no luck logging on to look at knives, and I am sure tomorrow being Saturday it is going to be even worse! At least I tried

The after action report at Spyderco and their hosting company will be interesting, for sure. If they do this again next year the kinks will be worked out, I'm sure. This was quite the baptism by fire far all involved. And they still have Saturday to survive. I'm standing by to donate blood to my fellow IT pros. They'll need it after sweating blood for 3 days!

I understand the frustration, but I think Spyderco is doing what they can do under the circumstances.

Yes, I had to try multiple times, lots of refreshing, even had to re-enter my card number, and I'm on cellular internet, but I still managed to get a knife I wanted, and I'm thankful to Spyderco for doing the Seconds Sale online this year.

I just doubled my Spyderco collection :) (finally one transaction at this sale for one Native 5 went through). Is this it or are they doing day 3? I read FaQ and it does not say.

Like I said, the ecommerce platform of Spyderco wasn't optimized for high-volume, fast-moving sales. I think it was Sal, or maybe one of the other mods, who said it before that the pricing here was intentionally done to prevent the site from being a competitor to their distributors, to make customers go to the dealers first because the knives are sold at street prices there. Maybe this is why the ecommerce platform itself is outdated.

Then again going back to one of my earlier statements - compare this with the other knife dealer sites. I'm not trying to rub salt on anybody, but people just have to understand this was the first time ever that the folks at Golden had to do this, and not only do they have to prepare the site but also sort out their inventory of factory seconds, prepare the shipping flow, and even respond to customer emails and requests and social media activities, on top of their daily operations at SFO. All that in a month's time.

Cut them some slack. I truly understand the frustration, but if you're frustrated and you're venting out here, along with all the others venting out on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram, would that help ease the technical difficulties of the sale? I doubt that.

I'm not complaining about Spyderco or their IT people. I'm fully aware of the extreme effort they went through to make this happen at all. But the cart software is terrible, even for low volume sales. I fully expected the timeouts, slow site, etc. but the cart software is just compounding the issues.

I think ecommerce is the future... retail is a dying form and I'd be surprised if the dealership network is any different.

That's neither here nor there, and has nothing to do with the Herculean effort put forth by the Spydercrew to make this sale happen. Props.

Yeah, I guess my point is, it's not something for which you should be unprepared. That's the way the world is moving.

For those of you that successfully ordered, was there a confirmation email? If so, how long before it showed up?

Mine came several hours later for my sole successful order.

I got my confirmation pretty quickly, but that was for an order in the first hour of day 1. Have yet to see the shipping email, but not going to fault them there.

I was able to get a Maxamet PM2 and the confirmation email was delivered pretty much immediately. It took a while and about 10 refreshes at the last step for the order to go through though.
