I tried, but I was teaching today, so I couldn't take the time to do the long refreshes. By the time I got to check out, everything I had in my cart was out of inventory.

But on the other hand, you should have at least listed down or remembered your password especially knowing that there is going to be a sale like this, and it was anticipated by a lot of people weeks before. At least a day before you should have prepared your account and your password, credit card, etc. Blaming the website because you couldn't recover your password at the height of a sales frenzy isn't the way.

At least there's still day 2 and day 3 so I hope you could recover your password during the lull in sales.

The attempt at password recovery was long after the frenzy died down. Hopefully I can get it figured out tonight.

Again- stupid website:

I tried logging in again but with no success. I tried the username and password resets but it said there is no account linked to my email address. OK, so back to square one. I tried to start a new account, but then it says there is already an account linked to my email address!

I went back to try another username/password recovery and then I got locked out for another 5 hours.

I tried making a new account with a separate email address and boom- locked out for 5 hours.

I just went back to the sale page to see what I missed. There were definitely some great deals. Tomorrow is another day.

I don't mean to pour salt into anyone's wounds, but any time there's any kind of sale or sprint coming out it really would be wise to go to that website ahead of time and make sure all your login stuff is squared away. If you know a sprint goes on sale at 10am, you need to be on the site logged in at 9:30 before their server gets smashed. You can't really expect to be able to recover passwords and crap like that when there are thousands of people logging in making orders. Bandwidth is a pretty finite thing, companies can't just call up their provider and say "Hey we have a sale going on, crank it up to 11".

I’d suggest Spyderco make a new site for seconds sales and leave them up year round. Several retailers have their seconds available in that manner.

I don't think they'd kill the actual seconds sale like that. As much as I'd like a legitimate shot at seconds, I would not wish the end of that time-honored tradition where you lucky kooks freeze your fingers off all night to spend a week's pay in minutes. I really hope I get to be one of you next year! :D

I don't think they'd need to kill the sale, but I wonder if a "Members Only" section might be more helpful to keep the traffic manageable. Maybe something that requires two factor authentication to log in.

I don't know much about how the back end operations of websites work though, so I don't know how much more work that would require on their IT's side. And I don't know if that would even be able to block the bots from being able to access the site.

I'm no longer on Twitter either. I have been doing a random F5 smash through out the day. I have the luxury in that I am on a computer all day. You can go to the Spyderco Twitter page without an account, but then you'd be doing the random F5 smash on that page as well.

I know A LOT of people have been on the fence about the Shaman but didn't want to spend $200 on something they may not like. I hope some of those people were able to score that Shaman for under $100 while it was available!
