Boye dent, do you want it to carry on? Sal wants to know.

We did this recently, I think. Anyway, I am 100% in favor of the BD.

If the Boye dent has a sharp edge, will it strike a ferro rod well?

I voted to keep the Boye Dent. But with a caveat: Keep the Boye Dent in future iterations of the existing "classic" models that already have it such as the Delica, Endura, Dragonfly, and Stretch—I think the Boye Dent is a small (but integral) part of their "design DNA" at this point. But leave the Boye Dent off for any future models if doing so results in a significant reduction in machine time & ultimately lower production costs.

You need to add an option for "No Preference". I have both and have no preference, in safety or ergonomics.

Thanks, Fireman. I wanted to do this poll, but didn’t figure out how to do it.
Edited to add: I voted for the dent because it makes the lock easier to locate by feel AND more comfortable to depress.

I’m mostly indifferent, unless it is shown that such a feature would be the simplest solution to a problem with any particular knife unlocking when gripped in certain ways.
There is no useful reason to purge it from the design philosophy, in my opinion. Like a lot of things, it’s good to have have options.
Personally, if the Boye dent offers no discernibly safer function in some knife, then I’d prefer it not there (like the Native).
However, if present under those circumstances, I’d hardly bat an eye.

Yes, we had, just a month ago (viewtopic.php?t=87770) - screenshot of the results then see below. Still, some new members might have missed it so Firemans recent poll can´t hurt :)

Oh boy, well...
It depends. If the lockbar is on the thicker side or has been rounded at all, then no it's not necessary as long as the handle has been well designed. If the lockbar is thin, not well placed, or sharp, then sure it's a welcome addition. Basically I'm saying there are very few models that really need what the boye dent brings.

Lightly insane.

As far as I recall my only non-boye-dent backlock Spydie was the Native 5 LW, and I did not miss the dent at all on that model.
But it also does not bother me at all on all of my Seki backlocks, guess I just have no preference.
If I absolutely HAD to choose I´d probably take the dent though.

Very strong preference for "dentless" midlocks. There's one model in particular, the Schempp Persian, that I love the look of but will not carry anymore because the 4 sharp corners on the Boye dent make closing it uncomfortable when my hands are acting up.

I know I'd rather have it than have this topic further beat into the ground. I never realized it mattered as much as it does to some. I could totally live without it but if it's that important to people I can live with it too.

I prefer the dent, but it's not a deal breaker for me.

I like it less on smaller knives.

I am indifferent and I also don’t understand why folks like it so much. I would have to look at most of my knives to even know which models have one and which do not.

Much prefer deeper well with no dent

I voted to keep the Boye dent.
Although if I really like a design, not having it isn’t a dealbreaker.
