S30V DLC Corrosion?
I recently purchased a blacked out yojimbo 2 on the secondary market that came like this.
Has anyone had any success with polishing something like this away?

Re: S30V DLC Corrosion?
It doesn’t wipe right off with some oil? DLC coating is absorbent. Try a heavy coat of some oil/lubricant and see what happens. You’ll notice it soaks it up.

No. I have tried scrubbing it with soap, alcohol and oil and it still looks the same

Re: S30V DLC Corrosion?
I bet it comes off with Flitz (metal polish). There are folks here who have Flitz'd coated blades with great luck. I have never done it.

Re: S30V DLC Corrosion?
Hi Cletusvandamme,
I would try the Flitz metal polish and let me know if that works? Put it on and let it stand for about 15 minutes, then wipe it off.

Vivi has a related post about a DLC coated blade that will be of interest to you. He had similar stains on his DLC M4 Manix XL.

I might have to try Sal's cleaning suggestion on it. This weekend I plan to reprofile that knife and step up my cleaning attempts.JRinFL wrote: ↑Thu Oct 15, 2020 1:37 pmVivi has a related post about a DLC coated blade that will be of interest to you. He had similar stains on his DLC M4 Manix XL.

I've used Flitz on DLC quite a lot and it works great.
Of all the things I've lost I miss my mind the most!
Re: S30V DLC Corrosion?
Is it sitting on top of the coating or is it depressions? How does it feel when you run a fingernail across it?cletusvandamme wrote: ↑Thu Oct 15, 2020 8:48 amI recently purchased a blacked out yojimbo 2 on the secondary market that came like this.

Re: S30V DLC Corrosion?
i've seen this before on my DLC coated blades, in both s30v and 4v. It does come off with liquid Barkeeper's Friend cleaner.cletusvandamme wrote: ↑Thu Oct 15, 2020 8:48 amI recently purchased a blacked out yojimbo 2 on the secondary market that came like this.

It can barely be felt. But here is another picture with different lightning and it looks like rust.jpm2 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 15, 2020 7:08 pmIs it sitting on top of the coating or is it depressions? Re: S30V DLC Corrosion?
Maybe it's just the light but it looks like a lot of pitting. There's also a lot of white specks on the blade, even in the spots that look like rust. Any idea what the white is?cletusvandamme wrote: ↑Fri Oct 16, 2020 11:37 amIt can barely be felt. I usually use fine steel wool to clean up minor corrosion.

/ I´m a bit confused: In this pic the blade does not look "blacked out" and coated - ?!
Top three going by pocket-time (update March 24):
- EDC: Endura thin red line ffg combo edge (VG10); Wayne Goddard PE (4V), Endela SE (VG10)
-Mountains/outdoors: Pac.Salt 1 SE (H1), Salt 2 SE (LC200N), and also Wayne Goddard PE (4V)

Re: S30V DLC Corrosion?
Applied the flitz and this is the result The spotting isnt as visible as before but the DLC has a slight sheen to it now. Guess i rubbed it too much

Re: S30V DLC Corrosion?
On my experience, with other brands coatings, when the rust develops there is permanent damage on the coating.
Re: S30V DLC Corrosion?
I like your advice>> I would use the FLITZ first off and then I would also use BALLISTOL to give it a good bath with. I've had so many good results with BaLLISTOL over the years.Fred Sanford wrote: ↑Thu Oct 15, 2020 12:26 pmI bet it comes off with Flitz (metal polish). And if it's really stubborn you might take a soft bristle toothbrush will some "Bar Keeper's Friend" cleanser that you can get at your local grocery or hardware store. Out of those three products you should be able to remedy the problem.
