Bought a Caly 3.5 got a Caly 3.0

He everyone,

I'm so happy so i have to tell you:
Last Weekend i auctioned a used Caly 3,5 in ZDP189/420J2 CF on ebay.
It arrived this week, I was not amused at first because it was a little bit dirty and some scratches at the blade.

But then i thought, mmmhh it's so small i like this feeling, feels like the UKPK.

I realised its a Caly 3.0 and I'm so happy whith it.
I wanted to buy the Caly 3,5 only in lack of availability of Caly 3.0s.

What do you think about it?

I have both and like both. I'd typically prefer the 3" but the 3.5" packs a lot of blade in a handle that's not much bigger

As long as you didn't pay too much for that Caly 3 and really like it, I think you got a nice surprise. I don’t own a Caly 3 or 3.5, but they have been on my list for a while.

You were buying the ZDP-189 3.5, but which Caly 3 came in it's place?

Only the discription was wrong, the pictures showed also the Caly 3 but i didn't looked closley.

IMHO Caly 3 is one of the best EDCs from Spyderco though I also have Caly 3,5 too in my horde, but never used it. One of my good friends here in the forums often tried to convince me to prefer Caly 3,5 over Caly 3 but without any positive result. :p
IIRC my Caly 3 (G-10 with VG-10) was trusted companion with me for over 8 years before I changed over to UKPK, which is more or less, much to my surprise, a Caly 3 without lock. :D

But practically impossible to get in Europe.
So i wanted to try a 3,5 as an option.

Thats why i'm so happy whith the "wrong" buy.

I thought it seemed weird. Looks like at least a few of his prices went up.

I like the Caly 3.5 in ZDP189.

About the only reason I haven’t carried it more, is the edges of the handles are very ‘squared off’.

It’s been more comfortable since I sanded them to a more rounded, radiused edge.

I usually use it as my ‘suit’ knife.

The UKPK is basically a slipjoint Caly.

I’d get a HAP40 or Superblue 3.0 if I found one for a decent price.

Congratulations on the 3.0, that’s a very nice knife.

Well i like the Caly 3 very much as it is basically the twin brother of the UKPK.

The only drop of bitterness is the CF handle which is very sharp-edged and slippy.
The CF on my Sage 1 is much better.

I whould love a G10 Version of the Caly 3.

The Caly3 ZDP-189 is the knife that brought me back to Spyderco. I love it and I know you will, too.

I do not carry mine much anymore because I am afraid to lose it. It was my daily pocket knife for years. Now it is no longer made.
