I really like the fact that you can't see any pins or rivets in those scales. That looks nice.

Day 2, no signs of corrosion after some food prep and carrying IWB and getting it sweaty. Putting my money where my mouth is when it comes to my theories regarding DLC and corrosion resistance.

Sweet! I know you did that freehand on the belt sander, I'm still scared to try without a jig. My CS Kukri really needs a new edge, I may just gut up and give it a try.

Beautiful scales and beautiful background. Any idea where I could get some of those for my XL?

I dived right in to powered sharpening with some CS Kopis machetes. They came straight up dull, and at the $10 a pop I paid I wasn't worried about messing them up. They're so much fun to use now. I have a patch of woods near my house where I've carved a few miles of lakeside trails with nothing but machetes and axes. Built three camp sites too. Plan to go out there this weekend and build some more log benches and expand on of the fire pits. Colder weather means more weekend camping trips :)

Those Putman grooved micarta scales are hands down my favorite aftermarket scales. I've got sets for a couple other models, too. I don't remember seeing these for the Manix XL at dealers, but they're definitely listed on Putman's website (bladescales.com). Unfortunately sold out right now. You might try contacting them directly to see if they're planning to make more for the Manix XL soon. Never hurts to ask.

Will do. I've been trying to buy the putnam scales for the XL for the last three years with no luck. Can't hurt to ask :)

PS I envy how well the Manix 2 fits your hand. There are so many good variations of that model. I'd be all over the Rex45 sprint, for example, and would have grabbed the gray scaled 51200 sprint too. Isn't fun having bigger than average paws as a knife fan.

Sounds like it's time to try begging and bribery with Bladescales! While you're at it, tell them we need some new micarta colors, too. They can't keep the green ones in stock, surely they'd sell out other colors, too.

It definitely is nice to love a model that gets more than its fair share of sprints/exclusives/aftermarket parts. I still wonder why the XL didn't get the rex45 treatment, but hopefully the success of the BladeHQ manix XLs will encourage other dealers to do more.
