Clear Manix 2 LW Vanax SuperClean sprint?

#1

Post by Ez556 »

Just spitballing here, but I saw an old picture of a clear FRCP Manix 2 prototype at the 2010 Amsterdam meet, and I thought it would be a great candidate for a sprint! Trying to think of a nice stainless steel to compliment it, I thought Vanax SuperClean would be perfect. The clear scales would go with the vibe of name of the steel, and it would fill the “Manix 2 LW salt” void I have in my life!

Does that complexity decrease the simplicity? Not at all.

I'll second this just for the steel alone. Vanax is supposed to be absolutely wonderful, stainless properties of Lc200n but with wear resistance closer to or above the M390 family of steels. In any case I'd only be into this if this model includes cqi screwed construction and the spread of vanax to the rest of the lineup.

In the meantime I'll wait for my precious manix g-10 salt...
Lightly insane.

Current spydie collection: Watu, Rhino, UKPK Salt G10 bladeswap, Yojimbo 2 Smooth G10 Cru-Wear, Manix lw “mystic” 20cv, SmallFly 2, Waterway, Ladybug k390, Caribbean
Current favorite steels: sg2/R2, lc200n/Z-FiNit, 3v

I'm not big on that clear look...but that's just me. To me it looks "dime store" novelty. I like the Vanax SuperClean suggestion, however.

Thanks Sharp Guy, that’s the one! I really like the clear look with the silver of the blade, it’s a very clean look. You could call it Super Clean  I would still love to see a production LC200N Manix 2 LW with translucent yellow or green scales, but this could be a pretty cool sprint, and it sounds like a lot of people want to see the Vanax. Give it screw construction and people can even swap the blade into a G10 handle or something if they absolutely can’t stand the clear. I would really love the clear though, and no matter what the scales look like it’ll sell out.

I've been begging for Vanax SC too. Sal says it's still prohibitively expensive. We can hope.

The fully clear scales that Spydergirl posted are worth a look. The elegant simplicity of the Manix LW lockworks is fantastic.

This would be an instabuy if they make the lock backspacer rust proof. In my S110v Manix2 LW corrosion testing (abuse), the ball and spring don't rust in pools or hot tubs, the S110v does amazingly well, but the lock backspacer rusts.

i understand the clear and translucent scales on the manix 2 lw were meant to show the inner workings. i've never really cared for the look though. i'd much rather be able to access the inner workings by being able to disassemble the knife.
keep your knife sharp and your focus sharper.

I'm pretty sure it was discussed something like 10 years ago or something that the clear scales wouldn't work. I don't remember exactly why, but I do remember there was a reason the LW originally came in translucent blue instead of full clear. In other words I don't think clear will ever happen.

I was thinking some glow in the dark FRN would be pretty cool for a LW.

I don't know why they haven't done other translucent colors. Translucent smoke grey would be awesome.

And I am always up for more GITD as well, as long as it isn't Zome GITD. I always thought BHQ could do GITD LWs in their M4/Jade combo since the GITD green FRN looks very similar to Jade G10.

I would LOVE to see a Manix in Vanax Superclean! And clear FRN would be icing on the cake. I love the prototype pictures! So beautiful.
