Golden Kiwi (the fruit)
Golden Kiwi (the fruit)
Will someone please tell me how I can tell if this delectable fruit is ripe so I can devour it? Pree-ciate you all. :D

Very funny..
Standy99 is correct. A gentle squeeze at either end will indicate ripeness. Yellow variety tend to ripen faster and are softer than green variety.
Ripening can be accelerated by placing in paper bag with apple or banana as the acetylene gas induces ripeness.
One of the reasons bananas are considered bad luck on boats as the accumulated gas in hold can cause a explosion on freighters...

I love a good kiwi. Its packaged in smaller plastic containers here instead of out on the rack with the apples. Thank you for the reminder to look for them I see them tucked away not prominently displayed and hadn't thought about them in a while

Re: Golden Kiwi (the fruit)
Yep, that is because of the enhanced ripening from apples.
Very popular here sliced on brown toast with butter and brown sugar, divine...
And on Ice cream.
Re: Golden Kiwi (the fruit)
i figured the ethene from bananas and other fruit was probably part of the reason, but they are honestly on a shelf below where I am normally looking, behind a label and in a seperate container. being over 6ft tall is a curse....

I think google would have netted a quicker response about this, rather than a knife forum!

Yes indeed Tkok83Spy, however; I much prefer the insight and experiences of "real" people, especially those from where the fruits are grown to what Gurgle with all it's self-righteous grandeur can provide. In addition, a knife forum indeed, but an Off- Topic Sub-Section. Thanks so much for you valued input though. :D
