Centofante Vesuvius? I have questions, you have answers...

#1

Post by xrob »

All,

After seeing UK-Ken's pictures of this knife, I have definitely added it to my "must get" list. A few questions for those of you in the know:

1 - What is the relation between the Vesuvius (with the blue shell inlay) and the Centofante III? They look the same, but I am not sure.

2 - I am primarily looking for a combo-edge. Most of the ones I have seen are plain edge. Does anyone know more about this?

3 - Does this knife have a pocket clip? I keep seeing different pictures and so I am not sure. It looks like the Centofante III has one.

Sorry for my ignorance. Ken's pictures offered me my first opportunity to really see this knife up-close and I like what I see. Thanks to everyone in advance for the help.

I have the one with the Inlay which is Paua Shell from New Zealand. It's a combo edge and has the clip...a beautiful Knife and very usable...The III is the new updated version without the Inlay...same knife though...Doc

In answer to question 1 - the Vesuvius with the shell inlay has a compression lock while the Centofante III is a lockback. Apparently there were enough problems with the compression lock on the Vesuvius that it was re-engineered.

Not sure about question 2.

Regarding question 3, my Vesuvius (with a compression lock) has a clip which can be configured for either tip-up or tip-down carry - right hand side only.

Hope this helps!

Ok, and one follow-up question: what is the cost difference? I've seen the III for as low as $42 (New Graham), and the Vesuvius for around $85 (if it can be found). Does that sound right?

yes, on the vesuvius you got ATS34 blade and handles with shell inlay versus VG10 and no inlay on the centofante 3. also you got steel liners on the vesuvius and I don't think there are on the C3. in fact, exept for the overall shape of the knife they have almost nothing in common.
