SOLID Carbon Fiber Chaparral

#1

Post by Dazen »

Okay, so we’ve seen just about every scale material on the Chaparral now except solid CF. Can we get at least one factory solid CF Chaparral, in either plain weave, marbled or shredded (has to be a smooth finish). I look at the Chaparral as a gents knife and that’s just were CF belongs. What do y’all think!?

I’m guessing then you don’t care for the layered CF scales out now? Not trying be be snarky, just wondering if solid CF would feel/handle better? I don’t have a knife with solid CF, so I dunno. Either the marbled or shredded would look good I think.

I'm going to collect them all regardless, but I'd be pretty interested in a smooth g-10 Chap.

I’d be down with polished burgundy micarta, sooo classy! But, I still need a CF Chap!

I would love to see a Chaparral with a solid slab of CF that was milled out for the mechanism instead of just bolted onto the sides of some sheet steel as a decoration. Fewer places for gunk to hide, and stupid light.

Actually, there are a bunch of knives where I’d like to see this approach used.

Lionsteel did a CF integral lockback.
This birdseye is the best one yet, IMO but if they make a burlap micarta I'd also be interested.

Yep! Micarta or bust!

I'm completely satisfied with the CF/G10 laminate. Not sure I'd buy a solid CF version

... but, Julia: No call for a terotuf Chap?... ;)
Top three going by pocket-time (update March 24):
- EDC: Endura thin red line ffg combo edge (VG10); Wayne Goddard PE (4V), Endela SE (VG10)
-Mountains/outdoors: Pac.Salt 1 SE (H1), Salt 2 SE (LC200N), and also Wayne Goddard PE (4V)

Terotuf would definitely make me happy, too! I just got the impression that Spyderco didn't like working with it. But that was years ago, so maybe there's hope! But as much as I like terotuf, I still love micarta. There's so much variety in texture, color, and finishes.

Marbled CF would actually be pretty cool.

Well, that is/was somehow also true for Micarta and wood... now see the maple Chap!! :)

The G10/CF Laminate to me is like putting a Ferrari badge on a Honda. While a Honda is a fantastic car it is trying to be something it’s not. I have a few knives with the G10/CF Laminate and they are great knives, but to me they need to be either G10 or CF and not both. Smooth CF is awesome for sliding in and out of clothing without causing damage and looking good at the same time.
