In agreement with the others, I would encourage you to reconsider canceling your account. There are several alternative options mentioned above that would likely help. If nothing else, maybe take some time to think about it before pulling the trigger? I’m sure you already have, but sometimes a week or month away from something can help refocus one’s perspective. Either way, it has been great having you here and I hope you continue to come back.

Hey, Red.
Wherever you go in life, you'll meet people who you find offensive in one way or another. Locking oneself indoors and never going out is not a practical solution. In real life, I avoid those sorts. Here in The Forum, it's easier. Control Panel >> Friends & Foes >> Manage Foes. Then type in the name of the person you don't like. They're gone forever, you get to stay.

Hi Red,

I've gone back and forth with him a few times as well (you may have seen some of the posts).

Honestly, if you just step back and read only the main forum (not the off topic) you may find it easier.

I wasn't aware of the meaning of the sig line thing (I just googled it). If you ask him, or just point it out to Kristi, I bet he'll change it (or she will do it for him).

Please don't leave. The forum is worth sticking around for.

I've also sent you a private message with some more thoughts.

I had to google it, as well.

I think if I walked away from all the people I disagreed with on something or another, I would be pretty lonely. It doesn’t mean they’re bad people.

Thank you all for the kind words and the pm’s. I apologize for not getting back to this sooner but also have a part time job at nights and just got home.

I am choosing to leave the forum because although its an excellent overall forum filled with wonderful and knowledgable folks there is one member, who has an extremely divisive political tagline. Its a hashtag with a set of numbers at the very bottom of his posts. (under his other tagline) The same guy in a thread that is supposed to be about reading books is constantly getting his passive/aggressive political jabs in. He had a few posts removed or edited previously but his latest one he inserted a link to an ultra political tabloid he deemed as “truths” to once again jam his political rubbish quietly down everyones throats. He mockingly says he is an independent but one look at the hashtag and numbers at the bottom of his posts tells a different story.

I know this seems petty and on a few levels it really is but it still bothers me that its allowed to happen so I am leaving. Its been great. Its a wonderful forum.

If I left every place that has a political opinion that I disagreed with, I would have to move to the center of the biggest ocean on Earth and drop anchor and even then someone would probably still find me just to preach their BS at me. It's easy enough to block that person and/or just avoid threads that have any discussion like this in them. I do believe sometimes it's wise to walk away and be the bigger man, but in this case you're just cheating yourself out of an otherwise positive experience where you have everything to gain.

Hi Red,
Just another Forumite here to chime in and reiterate what the others have said. I have enjoyed your posts and will indeed miss them, but you "gotta do what you gotta do".....BUT, by leaving the Forum you have given over control of yourself to this troublemaker (not my first choice for a label). I venture to say his sole purpose is to accomplish just what he has done to someone like you. Bottom line, if you leave I wish you well, if you stay you make a statement (and I still wish you well). :D

Hey Red,

I’d be sorry to see you go, mate.

I enjoy your posts and I think your experiences and thoughts on using your knives are valuable.

I wish you’d reconsider deleting your account or leaving the forum. :)

Hey Red,

Lotsa reasons to try and leave this place. I have some of my own too. But I'm looking forward to stay for a while, and not let a few disappointments hinder me from gaining valuable information and possibly share some of my thoughts and ideas to others here. I also enjoy sharing some of my pictures too. I can't say I have many any friends in the short amount of time I have been here, but generally, there are some positive people here too.

Don't leave man. I enjoy looking at your automatic knife collections. I know politics is a very razor sharp edge to walk through and I understand how current events make an already volatile topic even more combustible especially with the US elections coming in. But take it from the others here, you have many options if something political bothers you. Best let the mods handle it.

There are going to be people everywhere who disagree with you, or who you disagree with. You can ignore these people (I have ignored several on Blade Forums, none here though!) or just realize that people have different views than you and that doesn't make them a bad person. I tend to keep political stuff low key because it just causes problems, but I don't let it bother me to the point of leaving forums either.

And yea, I'll just keep my opinions to myself. :)

No need to be calling anyone names. There are more tactful ways to suggest he ignore someone without making it an attack.

To be honest I have such a straight face that only people who know me usually get my humor even in person. It's true I never use "LOL" , I don't take pictures ( don;'t even have a camera) and I never hotlink. That goes back to earlier days when folks running websites were protective of their bandwidth. Some admins I knew would see someone hotlinking to their site and change out the image to some really sick porn. It left everyone thinking the guy who linked just posted left some really nasty porn on this ( whichever they were on) forum. Members then reported the thing not knowing the guy in the forum was innocent and didn't even know what was going on.

Such was the internet in the early days. :D

:D :D Funny. I know he is a bit put off by one member, but one member should not be enough reason to leave. There are a couple of people here who get on my nerves sometimes as they know everything there is to know in the universe. But, I do not let that stop me from enjoying my time, here, and I still interact with them time to time. I just stop when they start their nonsense. I think that is a better way to handle things. I can block people but I've only blocked one person in all the time I've been here and that guy finally got kicked off.

Hey Red, if I were you I’d send whoever’s upset me a PM saying: Chook Plucker, lucky I don’t know where to find you ‘cause if I did, I’d come over there and punch sixteen shades of blue out of you. He’d complain to Kristi and she’d close your account for you.

Either ways, he’d be upset and offended too so if nothing else you’d both be back to flush and even.

Alternatively, you could just ignore him and not care what he thinks, says or does. You wouldn’t be upset, neither would he and again, you’d both be back to flush but this way you’d both be happy and posting really cool stuff about your favourite Spyders.

Hey, Joe.
I think you're my long lost brother. I'm very protective of my images and writing, and went to great lengths to dissauade thieves. I try to write about my own thoughts, and avoid parroting, plagiarizing, and reposting. I know this is is straying from the original topic, but I just wanted to say hi. Maybe I'll see you at the next family gathering.

Joe

Joe,

I thought I was the only person on a knife-related forum who doesn’t take/post pictures. I don’t know how to, anyway. :D That’s why I don’t/can’t participate in many knife discussion threads; ones titled like “Show us your EDC...”, etc. In the past 10 years, I’ve taken maybe five pics using other people’s cameras for them; and I’ve probably had my own photo taken less than 25 times (including family gathering and ID photos). Fewer total pics than many people take in a single day.

I think at this point OP is long gone, so it’s probably not an issue if the subject strays a little.

In almost every location or workplace I’ve been, there’s been at least one person who rubbed me the wrong way. As others have said, you simply have to ignore them and live with it. Oddly enough, one guy I didn’t get along with initially later ended up being an OK dude, and we ended up getting along great.

Unlike work, on something like a forum you can just leave, but as Warstein mentioned earlier, it’s too bad if you give one person such power over you (power they don’t even realize they have), that you quit doing something you enjoy doing. But that’s OK, because we’re all different, and we all handle our business in different ways.

Jim
