what's best back pocket knife for doing stupid things?

#1

Post by Abyss_Fish »

As the title states I'm looking for something to throw in my back right pocket for cutting tasks I'm too afraid to do with my watu. Like dragging the edge along cinder blocks and stabbing robots. That recently announced cruwear delica with something like a 4x4 recluse clip would probably do it but I'm wondering if any of you have any different suggestions. I do have a k390 ladybug on my keys but it always feels a lil unwieldy.

so basically,
-tough
-comfortable to carry

that's all really. thanks in advance y'all.
Lightly insane.

Current favorite steels: sg2/R2, lc200n/Z-FiNit, 3v

Stupid things sounds like you might break it. In which case, not a spyderco (why waste the money).

If it has to be a spydie, I guess something from the budget line.

I've put several spydercos through the ringer, even the more expensive ones get decent use by me. I'm confident anything I get will be able to take whatever I throw at it. Especially if it's in something like cruwear.

I mean, the spyderco I've beat on the most was an s30v delica. If s30v can not snap under the weight of my stupidity then anything else'll be fine.

I'd say take a proven design like the GB, or get one with a blade stock thick enough to withstand most degrees of stupidity :p
Something like a LionSpy or SuperLeaf.

I could check the collection when I'm home from work to snap some pics of suitable ones if you want ;)

My back pocket knife is always some type of fully-serrated Spyderco Salt to complement the plain-edged knife in my front pocket (though I occasionally carry a Boye Cobalt folder if I need a marlinspike). The Salt 1 or Pacific Salt make great all-around cutters, though as Vivi says, the Tasman is magnificent. H1 is very tough steel, so it stands up to abuse pretty well.

Interesting suggestion.
If the Tasman is too unorthodox for you go with the SE Salt 2.

Like REALLY stupid? : Delica comboedge (sabre grind!). Can´t kill that knife...
Top three going by pocket-time (update March 24):
- EDC: Endura thin red line ffg combo edge (VG10); Wayne Goddard PE (4V), Endela SE (VG10)
-Mountains/outdoors: Pac.Salt 1 SE (H1), Salt 2 SE (LC200N), and also Wayne Goddard PE (4V)

I'll second the SuperLeaf. It's a tank.

Salt 2 is also a good thought. Tough, not too heavy, not too expensive.

A sabre ground Endura might be another one to look at.

I live somewhere that fixed blade carry isn't cause for comment, so my 'stupid stuff' knife is usually a fixed blade in 3v.

I'd go with the best deal you can find on a Tenacious.

Basically anything by Cold steel. Recon 1 or the ad10. Espada xl or Voyager xl if you really want to cater to your inner 12 year old. :D

I don't particularly like their knives and loathe their advertising (so much cringe), but knives for jackassing is kinda what they do. They design them to beat on cinder blocks and punch through car doors.

If you want to abuse a Spyderco, the lil temperance is beefy. Old school manix would definitely work. Of current models, maybe the shaman. G10 tenacious if you're on a budget.

An SOG Terminus XR, G10, w/flipper, in D2 steel. Pricewise, it's in Value Folder territory, but not finished as well or as tight.

Fully serrated, saber grind Endura 4. Not too expensive, tough as nails, won't break it if you pry a bit, and SE will provide a nice balance to your PE Watu.

If you love to reprofile blades after screwing up the edge, Pac Salt 2. Coarse stones will go through H1 like butter.

pacific salt se. of all my knives, it gets pushed the hardest and it's very trustworthy. second choice would probably be a native (at least with a combo edge) since they have fairly robust blades.
keep your knife sharp and your focus sharper.

Did someone say Superleaf? I know just where a very nice one is!

A Saber grind Delica or Endura in either edge, or combo edge is tough to beat!

Beat me to it. I'm constantly impressed by how much abuse my Pac Salt SE can take. I recently punched through and sawed a closet door in half with it.

Echo some of the suggestions above. Pacific Salt 2 in SE or Endura in CE. Or if you want Delica sized get the Delica CE or Salt 2 SE. Those combo edge Delicas and Enduras are tough as nails and the liners give them some added rigidity over the Salt models.
