I’ll be interested to hear what you think of that knife.
I’ve never handled a LW Manix, and the REX45 runs have eluded me so far...
You prompted me to bring out my pair of Manixes today:

Yes, I have yet to try a G10 Manix but I have a LW (Maxamet) version and I really like it. It's one of my favorite knives despite the fact that in general, I prefer longer cutting edges.nerdlock wrote: ↑Sat Aug 29, 2020 7:05 pmThe Meat man wrote: ↑Sat Aug 29, 2020 6:56 pmSunday? Nice knife, by the way.
Haha, it's about 9:00 in the morning here already. I dunno how many timezones are we ahead of you. Thanks! Except for the extra coarse G10 that sticks to my pocket like there's no tomorrow, loving this...well, all Manixes in that regard. :)

Did about 75 miles today

Nice, Vivi. Sounds like a good pedal! Yeah, I got the Native LW and Manix LW in REX45. Both were great values... IIRC MAP at ~112 and 122.

I’m not sure of the exact angle, as they were ground on benchstones. I generally just lift the spine high enough so I can consistently avoid scratching up the blade flats.
Using an angle finder app on my phone, they seem to be about 9 dps. I microbevel these steels at 15dps with the Sharpmaker, as you can see if you look closely.
Interestingly, the 52100 Manix blade was ground thinner from the factory than the Cruwear Manix, possibly because the steel abrades faster.

And a nice pair they are. I sure like my CruWear and have been curious about 52100.
I have long been curious about the Manix LW-- a little more than the G10 model, which is somewhat atypical for me. The G10 model seems "over-jimped"-- maybe a common complaint and fixable problem. I am no weight-weenie, but am sometimes compelled by that factor. The REX45 pushed me over the edge on this purchase.
So far i have only played with it a bit and cut some inconsequential things-- plastic wrap, soft wood etc. Among it's size peers of the Spydies that i regularly carry, the Manix LW plays to it's strength as lightweight. It has some tough competition with the Stretch 1 &2, Chef and Shaman as longer-time favorites. I do basically prefer a backlock almost always, but enjoy some variety.
Thanks! And thanks for your initial thoughts on the REX45 LW Manix.Enactive wrote: ↑Sat Aug 29, 2020 11:52 amPS. As always your edges look darn impressive! Very nice work on those-- they look nice and thiiiiin! This one just arrive this afternoon, so it is now in my pocket. I've been enjoying my REX 45 Native 5 LW-- carrying it at work this week. The Manix 2 is a new model for me. I once handled the G10 model in a shop. I find the Manix LW to be quite compelling from a value, weight, and price perspective. REX 45 is some good stuff.
We'll see how i like the model in the longer run. My initial impressions are favorable. :spyder:

I agree about the jimping. It does feel excessive. My Cruwear Manix was definitely very uncomfortable when gripped tightly, until I sanded down the edges and points of the jimping.
The DLC coating on the liners of the 52100 version had the side effect of softening those sharp points and corners, so it actually felt fine straight out of the box.
