Help order from Knifecenter to Europe canceled by Airline

#1

Post by austrian_spyder_fan »

I ordered a DFY Pakkawood/HAP40 from Knifecenter 1 month ago.
After a long time of waiting it arrived in US this week an should be forwarded to europe.

A few minutes ago i got an email that the airline rejected my parcel.

I contacted knifecenter and the offered my to try again but without gurantee it works this time.

What should i do?
Please help.

Hi Markus,

Have you ever had issue with dealers in the US shipping knives to Austria before? I can't imagine why the airline would reject your shipment. Is KC going to issue you a refund since you haven't received your order?

Hi Markus,

Would it help to have a private party in the USA receive it and re-ship it to you? I know lots of people around here are willing to do that to try to help out non-USA members.

Hi Markus,
What shipping option did you choose? I always choose the standard USPS shipping method and never had an issue delivering to Spain.

That's a bummer. I'm sure there's someone that can help you out.

Perhaps it needs to be repackaged? I know knifecenter's boxes aren't exactly discreet.

If someone of the community will help you, I guess that's a good way to go. Most of the problems arise at any kind of hand over. USPS to 3rd party airline, airline to local postal service and so on.
Let it be sent to a private person in the US, then organize a pickup with trans global, choose a single carrier without hand over like dhl express, 3 days later you got it :)
I do not recommend to make a creative declaration in order to save customs fees.
There are forwarding services, too, like bonvu, but some dealers exclude these services.

From the USA to the UK I find USPS is the least helpful method, and when it does arrive the customs charges are extortionate.

I always pay for DHL and it’s here within 3 days, fingers crossed I’ve had crossed yet

As a matter of interest, who do you order from?
Thanks!

Maybe the customs tag on the package said Spyderco Dragonfly and some idiot at the airline thought it contained live insects. ;) :D

Just kidding, more likely his package was in a container and the entire container was rejected by the airline because the container was damaged, or something else in it leaked or raised some other concern.

Apparently, the reason that Knifecenter packages are labeled as coming from “Center of the Internet” is because they used to have this type of problem all the time when “Knifecenter” was on the label. Many parcel shipping services refuse to deliver so-called “dangerous items,” which includes knives (according to their definitions). Recently, my mom tried to ship my wife a kitchen knife in a hard plastic sheath (carefully packaged) and UPS flat out refused to send it. If she’d told them that it was a “kitchen tool,” they probably would have shipped it.

Well, I used "myus" successfully several times (there are more such companies with similar conditions!)

Membership is totally free, it basically offers a US adress (which actually is just a P.O, box of course) so items (knives) can be sent from the US dealer to that post box for just the US shipping costs (which means no shipping costs in many cases).
"myus" forwards the items to Europe in a neutral parcel for a price of around 12 USD.
Sometimes you then have to pay the Austrian tariffs /taxes, sometimes not. Quite randomly it seems.

BUT: I seem to recall that Micha / Archangel (living in Germany) had problems lately with this service, cause they suddenly refused to send knives... so you´d have to check that.

Talking about forwarding services, I’ve dealt with Shipito a couple of times with no problems...

I usually use USPS with tracking. Works fine. DHL let me down. I paid their high prices to get their normally good service and the knife to get here in three days. It took a month.

Hope it´ll work out this time! :)

The DFly is cool, but still not my absolute favorite ("my" tiny knife is the Chap), but I love HAP 40 and wood scales and I know that you are more into smaller folders, so you made a perfect choice imho! :)

MyUS said lately that the cheapest shipping agent they could use to bring knives to Germany would cost me almost $30, iirc. So for me, they are history.

Hope you get your :spyder: this time. :)

That´s bad news. I was really happy with their service and their prices in the past, but I guess that now they probably (think they?) have to send knives and other DANGEROUS  items at a higher and more expensive safety level... :(

Update:
Knifecenter tried to ship again for free.
And the USPS tracking says it has arrived at Vienna Airport yesterday!
