It’s hard to better the Delica, I reckon. If I recall correctly it was originally conceived as a ladies folder before evolving into the great design for everyone it is today.

Great choices for your family, might I suggest for you a UKPK with BD1N steel. In my opinion one of the best knives and very affordable. The drop point version is my favorite. You may also like a lil native, they are very nice as well if you prefer G10 handles over FRN. I'm so glad for this forum and Sal being a part. I know of no other place like this.

I’m watching YouTube to learn more before I order them. I wish I can go to a store to view them before buying...hard to buy sight unseen. And harder to wait for them to come, for patience is not my greatest virtue!

For smaller hands (and actually bigger ones too), the dragonfly is wonderful. I second the frn version rather than the g10 for better portability.

I know right? I just bought 2 more bigger ones too. Anything biggishwill go to Hubby and the smaller ones to the girls. Once I have seen them in person I will decide what to get for myself. Heck I might just get a knife for everyone in the extended family for Christmas! That will make my life easier.

OMG! That is SO sexist! This is 2020. Ladies can carry big knives and even vote! The boys can wear earrings and carry a little knife. Not me, mind you. But it's ok.

Yes, great score on the Manix sprint! Just be aware that the Manix lightweight can feel a bit stiff out of the box, but rest assured it will break in with use. The g10 Manix 2 is one of my favorite spydie knives, but the lightweight has really been growing on me this summer - it really does carry nicely in lightweight clothing.

As another female person with very petite hands, I've found that the size of the overall knife doesn't matter to me as much as the ergonomics of the handle. I wanted to love the Manix, but the contouring and finger choils were just set too wide apart and I couldn't get a comfortable grip -- hopefully it'll work out better for you than it did for me. Big knives like the Amalgam and Police work great for me though, because of the minimal contouring.

I can't recommend any small knives, because I tend to go for the bigger ones and haven't paid much attention to the smaller offerings in Spyderco's lineup. The Native was decent though (although not as comfortable to hold as some of my larger knives).

You've got a lot of premium knives with very nice steels. I can't stress to you enough how important a good sharpening system can be. The sharpmaker is one of the best systems on the market especially for beginners.
The super steels aren't difficult to sharpen. They are just going to take more work. To that effect I would actually recommend something cheaper to practice on. Something with a softer steel, 8Cr13Mov or 154CM. H1 is a good soft steel as well but a bit more expensive to practice with.

Welcome to the forum. You have chosen 3 good models. The PM2 is a favorite for everyday carry for a lot of people. Depending on your location and what people are used to seeing, it might be a good size or might be too large. A lot of people in larger cities pick just under 3" knives because they have legal limits or they don't want to scare people when the pull their knife out. Where I live it isn't a problem, the PM2 is the smallest knife that I will carry. People have suggested the Delica- it is a good compromise between being big enough to easily use vs. being small enough that it won't alarm people.

Hello and welcome! Seems you've got bit by the bug big time. The para 3 is my favorite folder it seems to do everything well and has plenty of fidget factor as well.

As someone who has purchased knives for extended family the Byrd line is quite affordable. Gifted all the nephews and brothers-in-law the rescue 2 serrated, then promised them I'd sharpen them whenever they needed....they all really liked them.

I went with hubby to a local gun shop today and was pleasantly surprised to see a few Spyderco models. We were able to try the Delica, Smock, Native 5 and PM2. I was so excited to try the Delica but ironically I did not like the feel of it my hand! The handle was very long and narrow so I didn’t feel like I had a good grip of the knife. The PM2 was very large in my hand but was perfect for hubby. He loves that one the best. The Smock was quite big but the button to open the blade was pretty cool. It felt a little bit safer opening and closing it. Out of be 4 knives the Native 5 felt the best in my hands. Glad I bought the Native 5 from St. Nick’s Knives today. At least I know one will fit great. I’m going again tomorrow to see if they have more models!

Have you gals looked at the Astute? It's brand new in spyderco's budget series, and it was designed with smaller hands in mind. Mine just arrive at it is excellent! The design is really attractive with beautiful curving lines, and it's a very women's-pocket-friendly size. I'm really hoping it sells well so Spyderco will release it in other colors!

The Astute was designed for the designer's wife. In fact he wanted to call it her name. Eric has been driving the project from the first design. I agree with Julia.
