Hi there ...
Hi Spydie community,
a new french member on this forum. After so many years reading so many posts, I decide to join the forum.
I've begun to investigate Knife's world many years ago but was a bit reluctant buying a spyderco. I first found it a bit strange with this Hole. Then, I bought my first spyderco product : the Sharpmaker .... Then my first Spyderco knife : the Chaparral. Then a second one, the Sage5 ...
I was initially a bit shy to join the community. But I think that if you have a bookmark on the spydie forum and check it every morning with your coffee and have a look before kissing kids who go to bed, you already are a member, bit by the spider. So let's join :)

Re: Hi there ...
Welcome!
So what do you think of the Chaparral and the Sage 5?
Which version of the Chaparral did you get?
I’ve often thought of getting a Sage 5, but it just seemed to be in a size niche that I already have quite a few knives in.
I’d be interested in your thoughts on it.

Salut FrenchBlob! :)
I think you won´t regret having joined the forum and nice to have you here!
Been to your homecountry multiple times, especially for bouldering in Fontainebleau as well as hiking and "living on the beach" on the island of Korsika when I was a younger man..
/ The Chaparral is my favorite small Spyderco, imho it is perhaps the most perfect of Sals anyway great designs and does just everything right for a small folder. Which version do you have? And what do you think of the gorgeous new sun and moon variant?
And the Sage 5 (LW in my case) is what I would choose if I ever decide to get a small comp. lock folder (well, now there is the Watu as a strong competition..)
So great choices you made in my opinion!!

Welcome to the forum! It sure sounds like you've been bitten, but that's not a bad thing at all.

Re: Hi there ...
Merci and congrats for french words :)
I have the LW Chaparral ... nice blade for EDC, a good size for me. I love this thin grind -as many seems to- and it is very comfortable in the pocket and in the hand, even in my large hands. For opening letters and boxes, everyday minor (and a bit more) cutting tasks it is perfect. But I needed something bigger. For my 2 daily apples, I needed something a bit longer. So comes the Sage5, CF version.
Wonderful knife, perfect ergos, fidgety compression lock, nice fit and finish. A good purchase, very classy, also very comfortable in the pocket and in the hand. But I am using my knives. I sell knives I don't use. So the Sage 5 goes away...
Why ? For me, the blade is a bit too short for my apples :)
It finally was for me in the same category as the Chaparral.A bit beefier, a bit larger but not filling the role I bought it for. I had the feeling it was on oversized Chap and was very happy with the Chap. In this large category, between Delica, Chaparral, Sage and PM3, there is come competition!!! A least Spyderco gives us a nice choice for those who prefer a bit beefier, lighter more classy ...
And so comes, as says DSH007, the need to buy an new knife... Maybe the Watu ... for my apples :)

Re: Hi there ...
@ austrian_spyder_fan : I am from south of France, near mediterranean sea and french riviera ... Nice area, very sunny and warm ... But my passion is more towards the mountains than the sea. Hiking, mountain views and picnic with "saucisson" (french dried sausage) cheese, bread and an apple is more my cup of tea... So my need for a slicy knife ;-)
@ warstein : really nice sun and moon version. Didn't have the chance to handle one .. but wait and see...
