Those are awesome looking scales, both of them. Maybe it's just me, but I really think that the ethnic design of the Watu really stands out with wooden scales.
Yes, I completely agree with this.
I did a search a while ago on the Watu and Chokwe, trying to get a sense of what the original pattern looks like. Every fixed blade chokwe type knife had wood scale. I am just completing the homage.

All these are beautiful. That koa is especially cool, with the stripes setting off the geometry of the handle.

I showed my wife this picture and she said, "I don't car... Ooohhh!!"

Now she doesn't like the handle on hers. :p

What kind of wood is that? Love the tone and the figuring.
The solid wood makes the knife look so different from mine (with holes). It's making me consider another set of scales...

I'm actually in Morro Bay (where that scale maker is located) right now. I'm considering trying to find him. The town's not that big...
I live in Morro Bay! I would be down meet up so long as social distancing is enforced. My wife and I are expecting so I need to be extra safe!

This was a really nice surprise. I was a big fan of the holes until I made @spydergirl88 a set without them! It also leaves room for some inlay work, but I've been hesitant to attempt it because you have to watch out for the backside indexing pins!

Hi Julia,

I'm sure Chris could inlay a python. Just to make it harder. :p

Hey Chris,

Congratulations to you and the Mrs. The only things that are really new are babies and tomorrow.
