Spyderco Dragonfly 2 Maxamet Edition?

Dragonfly 2, like so many other knives from Spyderco, comes in many different flavors. It's offered even in ZDP189. So that has me wondering why there's no Maxamet version of this tiny adorable knife?

Any ideas?

Maxamet is a US steel, and the Dragonfly is a Japanese model. Although it's not a 100% across-the-board thing, US steels tend to be used in US models. To further complicate things, Maxamet is difficult to work with. They seem to consistently have problems making PM2 and Para 3 Maxamet blades, which is why they're technically full production knives but only seem to get irregularly released to dealers in small quantities and sell on the secondary market with large markups. I would also not be confident that the Japanese makers who partner with Spyderco have any experience working with carbide replacement steels like Maxamet.

A Maxamet Dragonfly isn't impossible, but it would definitely be unusual and unexpected.

Big fan of the dragonfly, and I'd like to see it, but I doubt it for the reasons Accutron detailed above.

There is thankfully a good variety of steels readily available on the platform. Vg10, h1, hap40 (knifecenter exclusive but they restock), zdp and k390. Fairly frequent sprints as well.

I'm with Doc, preordered the K390 Dragonfly in May and still waiting for Blade HQ to update me. Hope it'll be along soon.

I wouldn't say no to a Maxamet Dragonfly, but I bet they'd be quicker to do a Lil Native.

I'd buy a Maxanet Dragonfly (or anything else, really). immediately.

I'll definitely take K390 in the meantime, though.

Good explanation. I suspected it might've had something to do with Made in Japan. But if so, why isn't there a YXR7 version of Dragonfly 2? Too susceptible to corrosion, perhaps?

Sal asks for discussion and suggestions on future Japanese steels from time to time, and YXR7 is often mentioned along with others.

I’d personally be interested to see one of those Japanese matrix high speed steels done in the Seki line.
