Early Spyderco's, Help Please!

#1

Post by JodyS »

Hi all, my name is Jody. I recently lost my father and in doing so came into his small knife collection. Amongst his collection were a few early stainless steel Spyderco's. I reached out to some people in the EDC community and was recommended to come here in hopes of putting some sort of value on these knives. I don't know a whole lot about them other than that they were More than likely acquired at either the LA County Fair or one of the guns/knife shows at the Fairgrounds. I do know that they are early offerings. Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated!

Hi, JodyS:
Welcome to our forum. My condolences for your loss.

Can you share some pictures of the knives? That would be helpful in identifying them. We'll be happy to take a look and help as best as we can.

Kristi

JodyS, I’m very sorry for your loss. One resource that might help is http://www.spydiewiki.com/. Please do post photos as TazKristi suggests. We’d love to see the collection.

Thank you! I just took some pictures some pictures but apparently I need to resize them as it keeps telling me the file size is too big.

Any suggestions on the best way to post pics? It's been years since I've used PHP BB

Hi, Jody:
Images need to be 1MB or less per file to upload directly. We have thousands upon thousands of images on the forum, so we have to enforce a maximum file size to ensure everything runs smoothly long term.

Alternatively, here's some helpful information from one of our longtime members.

I hope this helps.

That Mariner was just like mine. No shackle hole.

It is the second one down.

Worker, Mariner and Rescue. Probably late 80's/early 90's, someone probably knows when they stopped using the blue boxes.
So many knives, so few pockets... :)

HI JodyS,

Welcome to our forum and sorry for your loss.

Looks like Worker 2nd generation, Mariner 1st generation. The Mariner with the barrel bolt clip was later.

Thank you, all. Now that I know the models, is there any value to them?

Used as they appear, they are certainly sub $100 knives- maybe $75??? The rescue might go a little higher, but it's not a commonly collected model.

Sorry for your loss! As others have mentioned, I dont think you will get an abundance for them. I would just keep them, personally.
