Anyone Here Like Punk Music?
I'm a huge punk fan, and am looking for some new **** to listen to. I like Green Day, The Offspring, Ramones, The Damned,The Clash, and Rancid.
The pen may be mightier than the sword, but the knife is cooler than the pen.

When I was a little younger I was into Millencolin, NOFX, MXPX, Fenix TX, The Ataris, Comeback Kid..."X" was apparently the thing in the late 90's early 2000's haha. It's not new music, but could be new to you.

Re: Anyone Here Like Punk Music?
DUDE!!!! I'll have you know that some of my better music days in the 1970s were spent listening to Johnny Rotten and the SEX PISTOLS  I still listen to "God Save The Queen" and "Anarchy In the U.K." every so often :D  .
If you want to count ACDC as being "punk" I for certain liked a lot of their stuff too. I guess you could put the "Toadies" in that category as well.
It was a real tragedy what happened to Sid Vicious ( Bass player for the Sex Pistols) and his mentally challenged girlfriend
That was just about the time the SEX PISTOLS were at their pinnacle too.

How about The Jam. Angry Mod music.
Re: Anyone Here Like Punk Music?
Social Distortion, Pennywise, The Riverdales (Johnny Ramone's side band). Rise Against is kinda cool sometimes. I thought Goldfinger was kinda punk. And what about the MIsfits? Doesn't matter if you choose the Danzig era or Michale Graves, they both did some amazing stuff. Haven't met Danzig, although I did see him in Nashville a few years ago where he did a set with Doyle. That was a highlight of my musical life. Met Michale Graves a couple times as well on his solo tours. Just a genuine, down to earth guy who's really into the music. Check out his solo stuff as well!
Life of Agony could fit into the punk genre at times as well, although they lean a bit more towards Hardcore. It's all good though!

Re: Anyone Here Like Punk Music?
Man, it's like you're describing my childhood! Did you ever go to Warped Tour?
Nimrod (Green Day) was the first album I owned. East Bay Punk was pretty big for me, Green Day, Rancid, Operation Ivy. From there I got into a lot of bands TkoK & JD mentioned, a lot of Pop Punk & Skate Punk mixed with the Long Island bands like Brand New, Taking Back Sunday, etc. The Get Up Kids were really big for me also. Later came Melodic Hardcore, Rise Against, Strike Anywhere, Kid Dynamite, etc. There was a Post-Hardcore phase: Thursday, followed by a Folk Punk phase (that was a dark time... :p), then another Post-Hardcore phase: La Dispute, Touché Amore, Pianos Become the Teeth.
Around 2009 or 2010 I started listening to the new pop punk & melodic hardcore bands that were coming out, it was like a new wave of really good punk rock: Spraynard, Polar Bear Club, Menzingers, etc. Lemuria is definitely one of my favorites from that era.
I never really got into Crass (sorry Nate!), but my friends all definitely did. I think Folk Punk was bad enough for me. :-)
Prior to COVID, I'd gone to more punk shows in the past year or 2 than in the past 5 combined, thanks to dating someone who loves music (particularly punk rock) as much as I do. Definitely awesome to share such an intimate hobby with someone you love. And it's definitely awesome to find some other punks on the Spyderco forum.
I'm happiest with Micarta and Tool Steel.
Top four in rotation: K390 + GCM PM2, ZCarta Shaman, Crucarta PM2, K390 + GCM Straight Spine Stretch.

Lots of good stuff mentioned so far. A few more to consider: Husker Du, Dropkick Murphys, Fugazi, Black Flag (and Rollins solo work).
I'd consider Sonic Youth, Violent Femmes, and (early) DEVO as punk too.
And the godfather of punk: Iggy Pop and the Stooges.

How indeed! I still crank up Pennywise's unknown road now and again. Such a great album!TkoK83Spy wrote: ↑Thu Aug 06, 2020 8:03 pmPennywise and Rise Against...I feel like a terrible fan to forget about those two!soc_monki wrote: ↑Thu Aug 06, 2020 5:31 pmSocial Distortion, Pennywise, The Riverdales (Johnny Ramone's side band). It's not easy listening for sure, but as far as what the whole ethos means to me, they are the epitome of punk.
I do like virtually everthing else mentioned here as well. :)

I think Sleaford Mods are pretty true to the punk spirit without being derivative.
