Hello everybody,
As many of you are probably aware of, chances are that the 100th model will be a switchblade. Of course that nobody knows anything about it, but I wonder what you'd expect / like / fantasize it to be: an OTF, DA, side opener, folding guard or not, should it have a hole in the blade and if yes, will it have any purpose or will it be just for the looks?
What blade shape, what handles and which materials do you expect to be used?
Which type of spring (leaf, coil aso.)
Any other details you'd like to share.
Speaking for my part, I'd like a DO OTF (a la MT Scarab), with a full flat grind clip point S30V blade, and the handles made out of FRN  (with a steel frame to glide the blade). With a small hole in the blade (about 5 or 6 mm), which should add to the looks and will also hold the lock and the deploying spring when the knife is closed). The size of an Endura. Wireclip, reversable, tip down carry, held in place with 2 screws in the butt of the knife.
What about you?

Well, I don't really like autos, so I would be more than happy with an assisted opener. This way there would also be a place for a functional opening hole in the blade.

A leaf shaped blade like on the Caly Jr.'s or the Manix would be nice, VG-10 or S30V, full flat grind, G-10 or CF as handle material, Ti liners, a deep 50/50 choil and a glossy black foldover clip (no wireclip please) with a golden bug on it, maybe the same size as the Caly Jr. built the way you can dismantle it fully.

Cheers, Rob

Will there be legal issues distributing from CO?

Will it be a Seki or Golden product?

I'd prefer a DA myself, that way you could have a justified spyderhole.
I don't particularly like OTF's design...

id love a automatic Military. if they could make that work with Black G-10 handles.

also id like the Blade to be that greyish worn look to it.

with Militrary lettering in black.

It would be rather nice.

I like your OTF idea Dialex. I've always been most fond of OTF autos. I haven't thought about specifics but I do like the sounds of your ideas.

They'll be legal issues when purchasing. I'm seeing a lot of places asking for LE or military documentation before selling.

Is this for real though? A SB for the 100th. Doesn't that cut the market down a bit on a piece that will be a collectable milestone? That leaves Canada and half the states out as well as some European countries. Going after a bigger market share in Mexico and Italy I guess.

Can't even imagine an auto in the lineup while keeping the "look" intact. But, should prove interesting.

I have just a couple spyderco's so far, most of my collection is automatic knives so I would love to have a auto spydie, I would prefer a side opener, fired by a coil spring with the VG-10 steel

G'day Jurphaas, OTF is a front opener. The blade comes straight out the front of the handle. Needless to say it is even more considered a weapen then an auto allready is. The pinacle of all knifes for many auto lovers though and illegal in our country I'm afraid.

OTF autos are not illegal for us! Just check your local military surplus store, there are lots of OTF autos there! As long as the blade is around 3-4 inches.

Since the OTF format doesn't allow for the 'killer' blade geometry, utility-wise, I don't think it's a good idea. I would prefer a side opener with a wide leaf shape blade and ti bolsters! Bolster release please! :D

I hope not also.

It should be a desighn true to spyderco.

Somthing with the look and shape. I dont like those plastic handles like other companies have, it has to be G-10.

I think a auto-Military would be good.

they should also integrate the ball bering lock as well as the auto on the same knife.

Its just the best, i think

so that when you disengagde the lock, or pull it back. the knife will open. But while the lock is pulled back the knife can close and is only forced open inbetween a certain poing on the knife.

so when the knife is closed it will open. But if the knife is open, It wont auto open it anymore. It will allow the knife to close. if the knife was in a half way point it would still open.

seems good to me

I would love this

You may want to consider aluminum for the handle. I doubt you would see a FRN auto, and you can make a G-10, but aluminum would be the norm. Coil fired auto, thank you.

An auto (or even double action) version of the Police, the Military, or even the Rescue makes a ton of sense. All would have a market with those who can legally carry them, in the USA at least (not withstanding certain states).

An Auto Police model would be pretty sharp.
