Damasteel UKPK: penultimate poll

#1

Post by Superfool »

So, the tallying came up quite close.
Here are the top 6 choices by points system.

Aegir
Thor
Hakkapella
Bifrost
Bjorkman's Twist
Hugin

This is the penultimate DAMASTEEL poll.

■You get 3 choices here.
■You only get the one go at this, so again, no backsies.
■The winner will be chosen if it is very clear, but otherwise the top 2 or maybe 3 will be repolled in 3 days.

The patterns for the damasteel are all here:

https://damasteel.se/patterns/?filter=flat-bars

By the looks of it we are having a leaf blade, and a G10 ivory handle. We are nearly there now.

Please be aware that if steel options are limited, prices change etc, then we may need to repoll, depending on what Sal comes out with.

Choose wisely, this is going to be a great knife.

This poll will be followed by yet another one, which will be the last one?

Hopefully this is it.

But whittling peoples choices from 20 patterns has proved difficult. I am hoping that giving people three choices will help create a greater spread, but who knows?

Failing it all, I will take the top 2 or 3 and repoll for a finale.

Clear as mud?

I voted Hugin.

Superfool, thank you for all your time and effort into this. I am extremely hopeful this not only comes to fruition, but that I actually will be able to score one. I have a feeling that whatever pattern/materials get chosen, it’s going to be very very popular.

Voted Hakapella. Honestly, I'll buy this knife however it turns out. I definitely have preferences which could get me to buy multiples, but I'm guessing that whatever the end product is will be interesting enough that I'll get one.

I voted Bjorkman's Twist and Hugin. I left the third choice blank as there were a couple that were neck and neck, and I liked my top two choices considerably more.

I just spent about an hour checking out pictures of knives with all the different (popular) patterns and out of the choices I think Bjorkman's looks stupendous. I would recommend people take a look at some pics of knives before making their choices. The difference between the flat stock and the finished knife can be quite drastic.

I agree with everything ^^, but what I didn’t see was any knives with plain G10.

My first choice will be Ægir, with Hakkapella second, and Thor third.

Thank you all for the votes.

Good work everyone.

Hopefully we can smash this out in the one poll.

Why three choices again?
We need to pare down the list.

Bjorkman’s Twist and Thor for me.

Voted Bifrost as the ‘best of the rest’.

Thanks again, Superfool.

I picked Bifrost, Aegir, and Hakkapella in that order. I don’t think Thor would look good in a UKPK-sized blade.

I am just trying to be as democratic as possible. Ideally we will get an outright winner, but we started with 20 options, so there was unlikely going to be a clear winner in one hit.

If at the end of this one there is still no single clear choice, if there are only 2 that are neck and neck, then I would prefer that to three, but I will do the usual poll with people to say if they wouldn't buy it in a different pattern.

To be honest, I would like this polling to all be over, but it's all quite involved, and I dont want people that might buy this knife to be left out.

Yeah, I am excited too, so thanks for your (and everbody else's) help along the way.

I know that while the vast majority liked the handle, but that can be changed (to varying degrees and prices) with aftermarket ones.

The blade not so much, so I wanted to go slow and try and get this right. I was willing to go with Sal's choice, so it would have the element of 'Soul of Sal', who seems to be the legend that this forum is built around.

I really liked it.

This has been a bit of a rollercoaster for me, and quite a lot of personal stuff has been going on in the last few weeks, plus all the coronavirus nightmare.

There have been some times where I have got a bit snippy with folks, but its hard to take criticism sometimes. Occasionally it feels more like helicopter nit-picking rather than help, and after a really long day at the hospital it has (temporarily) gotten me down.

Your award made me laugh. You may feel it was a bit quick-n-$h1t, but I really liked it, and sometimes that is all that is needed.

Everyone here is well meaning, and its nice to be here with you lot.

I agree with this.

Most people can find a way to change the handle, but there is no way to change the blade.

I like the ivory G10 myself, bit you can always stonewash the entry level frn ukpk blade yourself, stick the ivory g10 on that and get a custim unicorn horn one, with bolsters of mermaid bone if you want.
