I Would Like To Know If There Is Anyone Out There Who Has Rescued Someone Using There Spyderco Knife? I Noticed They Carry Quite A Few Rescue Knifes And How Many Of You Use Them For That...or Have Used Them For That? I Go Rock Climbing And Rapelling And Want To Know What Kind Of Knife Would Be Best To Carry For This....i Also Am Very Intersted In Hearing About Your Rescue (if You Dont Mind Telling Me About It) And What Knife You Used... :) :)

never directly but who knows if something i have done helped/saved someone
as far as for a :spyder: for you an assist 1 might be the thing for that 1 handed rope cutting if you would ever have to cut yourself free fast and no point to stick yourself with
thats my 2 cents

williams,

I EDC a rescue, so does my grandma. She uses hers in the garden cutting plants, rope, digging and everything else you can think. I use mine for just about anything, but carry it because even though it's not of legal size ( in my area ) the sheepsfoot blade doesn't even turn an eye.
As far as rescueing a spyderco, we had an aus 8 rescue that was lost ( in the garden ) for probably a year, after I had purchased her a new one, we found it ( the tiller found it ). It still looked the way it did when it was lost. Amazing.
Sorry that I don't have a machoistic story about saving lives, knifefights or anything other than gardening. I can make one up if you like, it would be a great story :D . Cheers.

Never a person, but on one occasion I did save my dogs life with a SS Mariner. My Akita at the time lived outside on a chain that happened to have a metal choke collar...somehow a supple young tree only two feet tall got intertwined in the dogs choke collar and the more she pulled away the tighter it got. My wife saw this and screamed for me to help the dog...when I reached her she had fallen down and her eyes rolled over in her head and she had a bowel movement, as I tried to rip open the chain so she could breath. I thought she was a gonna at this point...then I reached into my pocket pulled the Mariner and with one hard swipe of the blade I cut the supple tree (1/4 inch in diameter) and was then able to remove the collar. Saved that dogs life!!! The lesson I learned was alway carry a serrated Spyderco with you and never I say never use a choke collar on a dog...Doc

well this isnt the most exciting story but when i was an aid for a 2nd grade class one of the older students, i think a 4th grader had brought some of the zip ties into school. (the ones used to tie up wires, and other misc. tasks, verry strong and almost imposible to break) Anyway this kid decided it would be funny to clinch it down as hard as he could on his friends finger (4th grade as well). And he came running by me and you could see the cirrculation had been cut off as his finger was turing a blueish color, so i pulled my jester out of my pocket (it was on my keys, and though it is not allowed in school, i honestly had forgotten to take it off) either way i managed to cut the tie off, saving the kid from worse outcomes. I was yelled at for quite some time about the jester, but the kids parents were greatfull and i didnt get in any real trouble. Since this i gave my jester to my sister and started carrying a leatherman s4.
Like i said not the most exciting, but it was rewarding. I really do need to get another jester/possibly a ladybug this time,

Piet...That Akita loved the outdoors she wouldn't ever take a step into the house....she just wanted to live outside and comune with nature....at the time I had a twenty five acre spread and she liked protecting the drive up so I put a troley up for her between two huge oaks on airplane cable that went the distance of 175 feet and from the top hung a twenty foot section of chain, man when she picked up speed running downhill to the driveway and that chain swung in the air she could kill you with the swinging motion alone. The only part that didn't work was the choke collar attached at the end...Doc

Got tears in my eyes from laughing. :D That's about it for me also, I peel the foil off of wine corks when I need the fix. That's a rescue on myself I suppose.

Thanks for explaining Doc, you put my mind at ease. Them Akita's have a lot of character I heared, I do like that.
Found a picture of a lazy afternoon.
About the rescue's, I plan on buying one so I allways have a serated blade with me. I like my knifes PE but I can see serations can be best sometimes. Sounds like a valid reason for carrying an extra blade. :D

A friend told me he was so hungry he thought he might die of starvation... I whipped out my military and sliced open a bag of dried apricots, thereby saving his life...
