Re: Rotisserie Chicken Patina On K390
I've been tossing around the idea of getting a Ranger Green Para 3 from BBS.
Those Ranger Green K390's are a BBS Exclusive. I'm wondering if Spyderco would ever bring out a K390 Para 3 with scales in a different color? In other words what's the exclusivity, just the color, or the combination of steel and the color of the scales. This usually happens the other way around. Spyderco brings out a model in a steel/handle combination, then the retailers switch things up by ordering different steel/handle/color options.
I'd prefer a Para 3 K390 a bit more than a Delica in K390. I could approach Spyderco and order my own exclusive Para 3 K390/color combo. Where would I keep, what, 1200-1500 Para 3's? Plus, I'd be spending more money on rotisserie chickens! It's a never ending cycle.

Love that patina. My Urban has only a light golden patina and has resisted patination so far. I am letting it patinate in its own time.

I'm waiting on the Dragonfly 2 and the Manbug in K390. Then I'll look for some chicken to cut. :D
Re: Rotisserie Chicken Patina On K390
Hey I'm just impressed you used a Ladybug to carve a chicken, I know someone just said it's a "full sized knife" but this is taking it to a whole other level :p

My wife was making bacon this morning and this thread had me wondering...
Doesn't look this good in person but definitely got some good blues

Nice patinas.
Yeah, hot meats seem to give the best colours. Warming the blade first with hot water also seems to aid the effect.
Kiwi fruit is one of the best fruits, I’ve found for a nice patina too.

I would second the recommendation of kiwi fruit. I have gotten excellent results on 1095 and V-Toku 2 with Kiwi. It produces excellent blues and purples-- close to an oilslick effect- and can still appear gray from some angles.Cambertree wrote: ↑Sat Jul 11, 2020 8:11 pmNice patinas.

Thread drift, but here’s tomato patina on a Case pen blade, and a grapefruit patina on an Openel. Both have 1095 steel.

I can't believe the blue is holding up! Usually my patinas begin to lose their color by now.

The patina on my Ladybug is losing color. I think as the blade keeps getting wiped down it gets buffed off.bbturbodad wrote: ↑Sat Jul 18, 2020 5:57 pmI can't believe the blue is holding up! Usually my patinas begin to lose their color by now.
