Which blade edge???
Hey, I am going to buy a Manix, Military or Paramilitary. I am going to use it as an outdoor survival knife for canoeing, camping and backpacking. So it will have to cut various items that I need cut while doing these activities. It will not be a EDC so size and weight of these 3 will be sufficient. Which blade edge would be best for this: Plain, Combo or fully serraded. Also which locking mechanism is more reliable and sturdy for many years of service?? Cheers
I'd go with PE Manix. If EDC and size were an issue then PE Paramilitary, but you said that this won't be a problem so why not go all out and get the tank? :p The Manix is a beast, it can take anything you'd want out of it. I say PE just because you can field sharpen easier, but then again all PE CE SE boil down to is preference really.

I'd say either PE or CE. Mostly cuz I don't think it's practical to have full SE. IMO there always arises a situation that calls for a portion of PE. I'm fond of PE but in the end you're the one using this knife and it's what you want that counts.

Combo Edge would be a good compromise.
Personally, I always like to have a fixed bladed knife on hand for wilderness/survival situations. Virtues of the fixed blade are that it has more strength than folders, as well as more weight for when you need to build a shelter or chop wood for firebuilding. Folders just aren't optimum for these activities.

savage-man...Spyderco makes some of the best and strongest locking mechanism in the knife industry. All three of your choices are great knives. I would buy two, one plain edge and one fully serrated, I'm not a big fan of combo knives myself, though I do like the way they look. I would opt for the manix in plain edge, that should handle most tasks you will be doing and I think you should consider a smaller knife like say the delica, native, or even a jester with serrations. This way it won't be too tough on your wallet, you'll always have two knives with you on said journeys...( IMHO that's a good thing for many reasons) the smaller knife will be easier to carry most anywhere on your person, and will come in handy for small tasks better handled by a smaller knife...Doc
