The DAMAUKPK Project: Damasteel UK Penknife UKPK

#1

Post by Superfool »

Being a UK resident, and not wishing to get hauled up in front of a judge, my best option is pretty much a Spyderco UKPK.

I have a couple, and am very much looking forward to the arrival of the HH edition; I have been on the waiting list since late 2019.

I was wondering if enough people had interest in a special damascus version, whether we could talk Sal into doing a sprint run. Maybe with some nice scales? :)

Anyone interested?

A Damasteel bladed UKPK would certainly be cool and Golden have used their steel before. But to be honest, considering the likely price point, I'd probably prefer to pay for a tool steel UKPK in something like K390, CPM 4V or Maxamet.

It'd be pricey, but Damasteel and solid carbon fiber would be really cool.

Maybe a titanium handled one, in a good tool steel; what are the differences between K390, CPM 4V and Maxamet?

I was thinking of something along the lines of Image, maybe with a deep pocket clip.

The damasteel that is basically RWL-34 (which is basically CPM 154) and LC200N would be awesome. I think it would be super pricey though. I remember one of the custom makers here saying he had a piece large enough for one blade that cost him several hundred dollars.

Regardless, if the UKPK runs in damasteel, I'll buy it.

I'd love to see it in that stainless damasteel with stepped Ti handles like the Chap stepped Ti. I own all the Chaps and the blue stepped Ti is my favorite handle.

Countoured carbon fiber would be pretty sweet too.

I'm still holding out for Maxamet though. :)

If you had to hazard a guess, what do you reckon would be a ballpark figure? I ask as I have no real frame of reference.

There are others here who would have a better guess, but I'd say at least $200.

Hi Superfool,

Welcome to our forum.

I agree that a Damasteel UK would be very cool. I'd like more input on handle material, keeping in mind that the cost goes up on exotic handle materials.

I'll start a thread on a British forum and see if I can get more input?

I wouldn't be all that interested in an unnamed damascus steel UKPK, but if you swap that to stainless Damasteel... I'd be pretty excited for the release.

As far as handle material goes, I'm always a fan of Micarta, but I think Damasteel would call for something a little classier. Of course that would increase the cost... But the UKPK is arguably one of the best knives that can be legally carried in the UK (and other areas), and I think they deserve a nice, premium version (ok, I admit it, my reasoning is selfish). Maybe a nice natural wood of some sort or even a marbled or shred carbon fiber. Something like the Snakskin Gold from Fatcarbon would have me be over the moon.

This may be wishful thinking but what about contoured Blackwood carbon fiber for the scales?

I’d definitely be in for one of these! It’d be really cool to have a high class UK legal folder from Spyderco! I mean I love my frn UKPK in 110V but Damasteel would go great with a tux for that James Bond look :)

I'd like to see CF or Titanium if it's gonna be in Damasteel.

I think I would prefer to see a Damasteel UKPK with peel-ply CF scales. The pattern of the blade is what really draws the attention and the scales would balance looks with performance.

If it's going to be CF, I'd really like to see smooth, slightly contoured marbled carbon fiber.
