Re: What "Other" is in your pocket???
It came this afternoon so I haven't had much time to play with it. Packaging is first rate. I love all the little details.
My initial impressions of the knife are that it is super solid, smooth, and well-made. I like the heft. The blade shape is lovely and I've never seen a hollow grind quite like this one - it's very deep and high. Feels like a first-rate slicing knife while still having a hefty blade and robust tip.
The action is smooth but not frictionless. I expect it'll smooth out even more as the knife wears in. The lockup is solid with no sticking or anything.
It just feels like it wants to be used.
Edit: I was a bit disappointed with the edge. Perhaps I've been spoiled by Spyderco. It came very sharp, shaving sharp, but it wouldn't catch hair above the skin the way my Maxamet Manix did. I don't like the convex edge either. I hope that when I eventually sharpen it, I can get nice flat bevels that aren't too uneven from heel to tip.

They really are great slicers, I would even go out on a limb and say they are as good or better slicers then some full flat grinds I know...LOL.The Meat man wrote: ↑Sat Jun 20, 2020 8:55 pmIt came this afternoon so I haven't had much time to play with it. My drop point wasn’t to sharp, but my Insingo was shaving sharp. First thing I did though on both was get rid of the convex and put a nice v edge on both. Easy to maintain now and keep sharp!

You know, that's something I've been learning too. As good as a FFG is, I don't think it can claim to be the best slicing grind across the board. It really depends on the geometry of the specific knife. The Sebenza is such a deep hollow grind I can easily believe it out-performs FFG in most use situations.murphjd25 wrote: ↑Sat Jun 20, 2020 10:57 pmThey really are great slicers, I would even go out on a limb and say they are as good or better slicers then some full flat grinds I know...LOL.The Meat man wrote: ↑Sat Jun 20, 2020 8:55 pmIt came this afternoon so I haven't had much time to play with it. I'll probably take mine to the sharpening bench soon and put my own edge on it. The convex doesn't bother me a whole lot, just something I don't like personally. Like recurve blades, they just tend to look a little sloppy to me even though I know it's a perfectly serviceable edge.

I keep a 20 dps edge on mine and it cuts as good or better than my 15 dps FFG blades... so there’s something about what you just wrote there that rings true...

New 23 Beaver Tail from my wife and son for Father’s Day. This thing is humongous, and a bear trap. I quite love it.

I must say, this Hinderer Full Track is remarkable.
I love the tool that it comes with. You can take apart the whole knife with it, barring the lockbar screw.
And, as you can see, it rides on the knife. You just pop it off and pop it back on. And, it won't accidentally come off either.

Use caution sir, I would rate the pull a solid 9. My thumb nail is gone. Lol

Re: What "Other" is in your pocket???
Took this knife to the sharpening bench. It was decently sharp but I knew it could be a lot better.
I also wanted to get rid of the convex edge with which it came from the factory.
I put it on the Hapstone and was pleasantly surprised how quickly the bevels came up. (I've been doing a lot of Maxamet lately lol) Now they are beautifully flat and even.
I took it up to 400+ on the stones then went with my 14 micron diamond strop, then went through my new series of CBN/kangaroo leather strops I bought from KME. The edge came up really nicely and I can whittle hair along the entire blade.
Sharpening is so much fun when it goes right. :D
