Hi Wade,

I know that we have a sprint coming out with Canvas Micarta and a different steel. I know there are a number of "Exclusives" IN-the-works. The Shaman design has proven to please a few. This means there will be variations.

S90 or higher is not clear. Higher in what area, or better still whattauwant?

sal
I think another great steel would be S390,I don't think I have seen you guys make anything with steel yet that would be my first choice and then M390.

From what I have seen so far S390 seems to have really good edge retention and from people are saying it performs great.

I can't seem to find out much. Is there an edge retention comparison to maxamet you know of?

The reports (which are just internet reports, so take with a grain of salt) are that s390 has better edge stability than Maxamet with similar edge retention.

Some information here: https://www.kase-knives.com/start/insig ... at-steels/

I believe the owner of that site (who is a custom maker) has appeared on this forum before.

That was an interesting demonstration on video.
The micrographs of k390 on that same page are also interesting.

Another great new steel I'd like to see Spyderco use on the Manix 2 PM2 Para 3 and the Shaman would be M398 which is supposed to be an improved version of M390 whith even more wear resistance.

"it is apparent that the design of M398 is all about wear resistance and essentially ignores toughness"

Toughness look to be very bad. Like not just a little worse than M390, but a lot worse. A thread from bladeforums last year said M398 cannot be cold rolled because it's too brittle and will crack. So apparently it won't be available in a bar or sheet anyway.
