I'll take one in either compression or lock back, doesn't matter to me which one! :D

Why anyone would want an inferior backlock is beyond me. I'll take a compression lock, please.

because every knife with a lock that isn’t a backlock with a strong bias to stay closed is just a ticking time bomb waiting in your pocket for the perfect moment to spring open and murder you and everyone within a two mile radius when least expect it.
keep your knife sharp and your focus sharper.

Spyderco's back lock is definitely superior. :)

Plus, it's ambidextrous. And it has a bias toward closed.

Inferior! Fully ambidextrous (the comp lock is not), strongest lock by far and proven so in test after test (comp lock not even close). Does nit need a detent (comp lock does). Has a bias towards staying closed when closed (not true of the comp lock). What is inferior about a backlock?

I would love to see the above knife with a backlock.

i’m curious to see sources here. the only backlock i know of that might actually be testing as stronger is the triad lock, which isn’t the same thing as a backlock at all. and regardless, many of the backlock models are not built as sturdy as the compression lock models, so i would bet the knives would break around the lock before a comp lock anyway (minus the para 3 lw, of course).

and just because someone will say it... obviously all of these knives are plenty strong for edc and beyond.

Staying on topic, I'd be down for this combination in a Lil native compression lock. Nothing against back locks.
EDC Rotation: PITS, Damasteel Urban, Shaman, Ikuchi, Amalgam, CruCarta Shaman, Sage 5 LW, Serrated Caribbean Sheepsfoot CQI, XHP Shaman, M4/Micarta Shaman, 15v Shaman
Fixed Blades: Proficient, Magnacut Mule

Would like to own again: CQI Caribbean Sheepsfoot PE, Watu
Wishlist: Magnacut, Shaman Sprints!

Hey... isn't that your friend who is left-handed? I hear that left-handers all have thick wads of cash in their pockets, ready to throw down on a compression lock other than the Plain Jane PM2. DLT should certainly harvest that revenue stream.

On a backlock the blade breaks before the lock. The other locks the lock fails, though the company lock it pretty strong.

Did you see Eric explain that they chose the backlock for the Chief because it required the strongest lock for a blade that size? The power lock is strong but fails at the joint in some tests. The bolt lock is really strong but I know of no side by side tests of it against a lock back

Which models are you thinking of?

I have a Police 4 in my hand that looks pretty sturdy to me. Endura, Delica, Native...I'm having trouble coming up with a "not built sturdy" Spyderco back lock knife.

Is the Bolt Lock stronger than the CBBL or the BBL?

Now I want to go find some destructive lock test videos on Youtube. Does anyone know of some?

BladeHQ tests all the Spyderco locks in a pair of videos (except the Tatanka/PowerLock) -- another reason I love the Sage3's Bolt-Lock, I really wish Spyderco would use it more.
