I'm pretty sure I heard somewhere that the Manix's FRCP doesn't take RIT dye the way FRN does.
I think it was on the Sharp Talk podcast ?

I was going to chime in with the Tusk as exhibit A as well, but you beat me to it! Not sure what they used on that one for the spring, but it must be possible. Also, I wasn’t keen on translucent yellow until someone posted a rendering of one on this forum, and I was sold. I’ll see if I can find the picture and share it here.ladybug93 wrote: ↑Sun May 24, 2020 6:57 pmthe tusk uses a spring and ceramic ball, so it must be a possibility. make the manix 2 lw salt with screws though please. and translucent yellow sounds hideous to me, but i guess we all have opinions and that’s what rit is for.Surfingringo wrote: ↑Sun May 24, 2020 6:15 pmThis has been discussed here on a number of occasions. Keeping the CBBL rust proof on a Manix Salt could be a challenge. Namely the spring?
I’m certainly not against the idea. I like the CBBL and it would be right up there with the back lock as one of my top choices for a Salt knife. I have actually considered designing another Salt folder around the CBBL, I’m just not sure what the production challenges would be. I like the self close bias of that locking system and I think it is the next safest design for IWB carry (behind the backlock).
i remember the picture. to be fair, i’m not crazy about the translucent scales in the first place and i really don’t like them in yellow. it doesn’t really matter what one person likes or dislikes though. i would take a manix salt any way i could get it.
I can confirm this. I tired to dye my Maxamet Manix 2 LW, left it in for an hour with zero results. Someone one Bladeforums said the synthetic kit dye works better, but I haven't bought any to try yet.The Meat man wrote: ↑Sun May 24, 2020 7:41 pmI'm pretty sure I heard somewhere that the Manix's FRCP doesn't take RIT dye the way FRN does.

I had the same thought, although I'd hope it could be slimmer all around in a lw backlock than in the g10 version.
i’m not sure i’d want a yojimbo i can’t flick open. if love a yojimbo salt in its current form though.
Oh yes, Manix 2 LW backlock skinny (perhaps with an edge a few mm longer) would be great. Would not have to be "full salt" for me, but would not hurt either..
Sounds great! I'd buy one. I love the cbbl on the g10 manix, but it doesn't work as well for me on the lw. I might still buy a lw cbbl salt just to have a manix salt, but I'd buy a skinny lw backlock salt for sure.
i seriously doubt we’d be able to flick this knife open. have you ever tried to flick a native salt open? the backlock spring is way too tight to flick it.

a few things... those other models are from other factories. i can flick my df2 salt, but my pac salt takes some wrist action to get open. my native? not even close. many of the knives you listed are also lined, which makes them open easier in my experience. the thickest of them all is the native, which is known to have the sturdiest backlock, possibly because of the amount of material in the lock and spring. an even thicker blade equates to an even thicker backlock and spring, meaning more tension on the blade.Wartstein wrote: ↑Tue May 26, 2020 11:01 am
Not a Native SALT, but a Native 5 LW. No problem at all (though I can't remember if only with the thumb or each finger)
The Chap LW is the only backlock I can just flick with the thumb, all others I currently have (Enduras, Endela, Stretches, Delica) with each finger (pinky in reverse grip of course).
I figure a backlock knife with a comparably heavy blade (like the Manix (edit: meant Yojimbo)) should be rather easy to flick open too - ?
Actually I forgot to mention my Pac Salt : Also easy to flick open with each finger!ladybug93 wrote: ↑Tue May 26, 2020 11:17 ama few things... those other models are from other factories. i can flick my df2 salt, but my pac salt takes some wrist action to get open. my native? not even close. many of the knives you listed are also lined, which makes them open easier in my experience. the thickest of them all is the native, which is known to have the sturdiest backlock, possibly because of the amount of material in the lock and spring. an even thicker blade equates to an even thicker backlock and spring, meaning more tension on the blade.Wartstein wrote: ↑Tue May 26, 2020 11:01 am

for all of you guys that are terrified of comp locks jumping open in your pockets and murdering you, it sounds like a dream come true. :D i’d personally rather have a self defense knife that opens easily and reliably.
