Good kayak knife?
Any recommendations for a good knife to bring along when kayaking? I normally want small and light, but in this case, I don't really care. Something with a 3-4" blade would probably be ideal. As far as the lock, I like lockbacks. Thanks :)

Siren or Pacific Salt.

I'd go for an enuff sheepsfoot in h1
Re: Good kayak knife?
I usually carry my Native Salt in and around the water. I will probably carry the Siren a lot more now that I have that though. Any of the Salt series really, would make a great kayak knife..

The Snap-It Salt has always seemed like a great kayak knife to me. It has the built in carabiner to clip onto your PFD or somewhere on your person.
If that doesn't interest you, you really can't go wrong with a Salt 2. :)

hahaha! this post seems like a joke, but just in case it’s not, i definitely recommend the pacific salt with a serrated edge for use on the water and surfingringo designed the siren as his knife to use as a profession kayak fisherman. i’d say either would be great choices. there are plenty of other salt models to choose from as well. h1 and lc200n are both marvels. i carry them both in the ocean all the time.Surfingringo wrote: ↑Mon May 18, 2020 10:35 amA knife for use on a kayak you say?? Re: Good kayak knife?
Another vote for the SE Pacific Salt. That is my go to water knife.

Re: Good kayak knife?
If I was you, I'd have a Siren in my pocket or strapped to the kayak, and a SE hawkbill dragonfly on my pfd. The SE pac salt is also a killer knife (although I mostly use mine for yard work/gardening).

The Siren’s design was driven by that exact environment, and I hear it’s a jewel of craftsmanship to boot.

My Serrated Wharncliffe Salt has served me well as my work and kayaking knife.

Pacific and Atlantic both look good. Not sure if I want a sharp or blunt tip though? The blunt seems like a better idea for a marine environment.

Re: Good kayak knife?
The Pacific Salt is already a pretty blunt tip. For my on water uses I don’t find it any more dangerous than something like an Atlantic Salt. I actually grind the spines flat on my Pacific Salts to make them pointier. Unless you’re out on an inflatable I would go with the Pacific between those two.Edward_Scissorhands wrote: ↑Mon May 18, 2020 12:33 pmPacific and Atlantic both look good. Re: Good kayak knife?
i wanted a blunt tip in case i had to use the knife in a rescue situation for cutting line. i was back and forth between the assist and the pacific salt. ultimately went with the pacific salt because it does offer a slight hump while maintaining piercing capabilities. it's a slight compromise, but it's the best of both worlds.

Re: Good kayak knife?
That is good to know, thanks. I can see a pointy tip coming in handy at times. My only worry is if I ever had to cut someone loose from line or something, it might be less risky with the Atlantic. A buddy of mine had to cut a Canada Goose loose from the fishing line recently, and it seems like the Atlantic would've worked well for that. Although, all he had a regular pointed knife, and it got the job done without poking any holes in the goose :)Surfingringo wrote: ↑Mon May 18, 2020 12:46 pmThe Pacific Salt is already a pretty blunt tip.
