RATIFICATION of MIlitary

#1

Post by Troll »

I wnated to know if there are any plans to ratify the Military. I am most likely going to get one. I wnated to know before I bought it if there was any chance that they were going to change it in the future. such as change the lock. If they were then I would wait.

Spyderco is a company that constantly tries to improve their product, so yes, in the future, you will see improvements on the Military. I don't see a lock change in the near future, but other things will likely be improved if possible/requested/required, like the thumb grooves, washers, texturing of the G-10, clip etc as they have been improved in the past.

Does that mean that I think you should wait? - NO - the Military as it is right now is a very very good knife, and if you wait for every possible improvement before buying, you will get old with no Military...

I am asking because I dont know much about the Liner lock and many say it is not as good as some others on the market.

I asked Sal a little while ago if he was planning to change the lock on the Military and he said something along the lines of " No" :p

If it ain't broke... I think as well some of the new locks are perhaps not as popular as a traditional liner lock with the general public. The Nested liner lock is very strong when done properly. The Military is a heck of a lot of big and scary sharp folding steel. If there was a real problem, I think there would be a score of fingerless Spyderholics complaining by now...

Its a great knife, I own several, just buy one! :spyder:

As the general said above, the liner lock when executed properly is extremely strong and can be placed up against any other lock in terms of strength. To borrow a term from a friend from NY fuggedaboutit, just get one

I have owned several and ALWAYS regretted when I sold them. They were all great knives, and now with S30V steel they are even better. I want to get a serrated edge for a work knife. I like the manix alot, but the military light weight is nice. My 2$

Spyderco makes some most reliable nested linerlocks. I don't think you'll be disapointed of the Military. Yet, if this happens, send it to me and I'll dispose it off properly :p

Military is my EDC. I normally change EDC for work and non-work, but the Mil does double duty, I just change my other knives to compliment the Military. Get one and see if you like it. If not, sell it. There will be no shortage of buyers.

You said camping and hiking, that should be right up the militaries alley. I used one on a backpacking and fishing trip, and it worked like a charm. Did not have to sharpen it the hold time I was on the trip. It is a great knife. I want to get a serrated for a work knife. Bet you will like it.
