Mule Team MT28P CPM SPY27 Revealed!

#1

Post by legOFwhat? »

Now that the MT is officially not DEAD and in the new Reveal, my eagerness meter is the red. Of all my mules only 2 are stainless and both are non-users because of the handles I've put on them, so I can't wait to get hold of this SPY27 MT and put it to use.

Until they release I'll be planning what material to use and color scheme to go with and hopefully be able to grab a couple so I can try a fancier material and put it on a shelf :p

You going to join the TEAM? Too corney?

Edit: https://www.spyderco.com/catalog/detail ... SPY27/1880 Coming Soon!

It’s one of my must haves from this reveal. I love the Mules I have and look forward to adding this to the stable. I’m hoping this will mean Halpern restocks their scales too.

Definitely getting this. I imagine this one could be put out quickly.

Made in the good ol' US of A as well. All the mules I have are Taichung, so this has me more excited!

It would be good to see Halpern use some newer material as well. Shred Carbon Fiber comes to mind....

I will definitely be trying to score one of these. At only $50, it’s a no brainer. Fingers crossed.

Hope this question is ok in this thread. I am newer to knife collecting and want to make sure I understand the Mule Team concept as I am interested in this upcoming release.
  • This knife is only sold through Spyderco.com and the factory store?
  • If so, is there a way to know when the knife is available?
Thanks in advance for the answer.

Yes, only through Spyderco. Click the wrench icon at the top of this thread and subscribe to this topic. Someone will likely post on this thread as soon as it drops.

At 50 bucks I am super stoked to get my hands on a few of these.

I carve stone and work leather and have a sweet block of bright green jade that will become scales for one with a tooled leather sheath. Can hardly wait until they start shipping.
Every day in my pockets, Wallet, Keys, Phone, Light, and Knife.

Pricing has always varied depending on steel. When the 9Cr18Mo Mules were available, they were like $20.

you can look back through all the prices here. https://www.spyderco.com/?s=mule The only one listed for over $100 was Maxamet. The most recent Mules were $70 and $80.

Man, I hope they are making _a lot_ of these. I'm definitely in for two. More if we're allowed to buy more.

I like this a lot at $50. Would kill for another tool steel as well.

Does anyone have a lead on Micarta scales? Halpern seems to only have G-10 in stock.
I'm happiest with Micarta and Tool Steel.

Top four in rotation: K390 + GCM PM2, ZCarta Shaman, Crucarta PM2, K390 + GCM Straight Spine Stretch.

This has me the most excited out of the new reveal. IIRC Sal mentioned that this is basically upgraded VG10. Did I remember that right?

Creating a new steel is not an easy task and we've been working on this for more than a year. Like anything new in business, it is a gamble. We hope for the best. We've done quite a few new things in the knife industry. Some are better than others, but to not try is to stop.......at least for Spyderco.

CTS-BD1 and BD1N is a USA made variation of a Japanese steel called Gingami 1 made by Hitachi. A very useful and successful blade steel. It was created because of Spyderco working with Carpenter. SPY27 is a USA made variation of VG-10, another useful and successful blade steel made by Takefu that was created by Spyderco working with Crucilble.

If there is a problem with this, I guess I'm not seeing it. Splain it to me?

That's super interesting about the Spy27 - VG10 connection. I can't wait to get my hands on this mule. It's going to be quite the labor of love carving scales for this bad boy!
