Re: REC PM2 CPM 10v Hardness
Given that Spyderco probably doesn't use the same HT protocol as you, is this about what you expected?
Re: REC PM2 CPM 10v Hardness
According to the hrc database thread, this 10v looks to be significantly harder than the 10v K2 (at 63hrc), and on par with the k390 police (64-65.5hrc).

Re: REC PM2 CPM 10v Hardness
Mine has a very agressive edge.
Also the grind lines in the satin finish are more noticeable than the grind lines on other satin finished knives I have. Im not quite sure how to describe it but I really like how it looks.

Re: REC PM2 CPM 10v Hardness
They probably left it at a coarser finish to save some $$$ on belts?
Re: REC PM2 CPM 10v Hardness
More likely the steels response to the grinding wheels. We don't use coarser or finer grinds.

My K2, tested at 64.2 JuPaul. So I see Spyderco as being very consistent, when it comes to treating 10V. :spyder:
Re: REC PM2 CPM 10v Hardness
Oh nice. I think there was just one test for a K2 in that thread, so it could definitely be updated.SteveMidwest wrote: ↑Sun Mar 29, 2020 4:33 pm

Re: REC PM2 CPM 10v Hardness
I have the 10v exclusive and some reground K2s that I have been carrying together to compare the 10v from 2 different hardnesses. The steels seem like they are literally different steels. The k2 steel seems toothier, gets less finely finished. The edge is more aggressive. But the k2 edge holding is a step down from the 10v exclusive. In sharpening, the 10v PM2 blade has a more glassy feel on the stones. Sort of like Maxamet. It seems harder to sharpen than the K2 10v, which I would say is pretty easy to sharpen compared to other high carbide steels. It’s a difference I can really feel.
In summary, I am not surprised the exclusive tested that hard... fees very different from the K2 at IIRC ~63rc.
My usage lately has been full time remodeling/light construction.

Re: REC PM2 CPM 10v Hardness
Thank you Spyderco for getting the hardness where it needs to be. Not just the harness, the overall HT is spot on. It cuts like a beast and takes an incredibly aggressive edge. This is my new favorite. I am very pleased with this one.
Re: REC PM2 CPM 10v Hardness
I had my satin 10v PM2 tested and it came back at 64.5 hrc.
