This knife would be perfection with a Backlock!
As would many value folders. I mean BL Efficient and Emphasis would be awesome.

Seems like most of the value Spydie family folders out of China are Byrds.
I want a fancified version, built exactly like the Caly 3.5.

I just can't bring myself to buy a Chinese knife. Taiwan is as close as I go.

That design looks like Ed Schempp might have had something to do with it.
I answer instead of Mr. Shempp. It's my design. This is my second collab with Spyderco. The first was the Hungarian. Thanks all for the positive feedback.
Very intriguing knife you've made here! Any insights into the design process? Intended use, your vision for the design, the inspiration, etc.?

It's a six year old design. One of the online stores calls it a budget gents folder. I think it's correct if we want to determine the type of it. But I wanted to reach something more and different. I hope this folder is not only for gents. I think it can be a full size cutting tool in smaller female hands. In fact it's a unisex knife like several others on the market. But it was an important point of view during the design process to create something also for Her. So I call it a ladies and gents folder.

I love this! I will definitely be buying one now. And thanks, Baron Mind, for asking an excellent question!

I was drawn to this design because of it's slim handle. Glad to know you were keeping people with small hands in mind!

With the Hungarian, and now the Astute, I'm a fan of Gábor Szakonyi designs. It appears knife design isn't his primary occupation, but I'd love to see more collaborations in the future.

Yeah I'm excited for this one too! I'm a huge fan of the Hungarian and coming from the same designer I have a feeling I will enjoy the astute too.

I’ll definitely pick one of these up. It’s a beautiful design and at that price it’s a no brainer. I like fancy steels as much as the next guy but I think Spyderco made a smart move putting this beautiful design at such a reasonable price point. It’s the kind of thing that gets people hooked! Remember the first hits free :D

Just got the notification from the Spyderco app that these are shipping to dealers. Shouldn't be long before we can get our hands on them :D :D :D

As great as the $200+ offerings are, I must admit it's refreshing to get sub $50 knife from Spyderco again.
