I appreciate this forum very much. I think I need to reevaluate my participation in the weekly photo contest and annual calendar photo contest. If it's not an accurate portrayal of the forum, what's the point? No offense to anyone here, I just don't see the value of nearly every week begging for the winner to judge the contest. Perhaps the dynamics of the forum are changing? Less active members overall?

i think a lot of people are taking this too seriously. it’s supposed to be fun. i mean, we’re taking pictures of pocket knives for crying out loud. some of you act like you’re trying to open a gallery of your work at sfo or something.

i agree that it’s annoying when people don’t come back and pick winners, but it’s worse to me when others complain about it. it makes more sense for the calendar, where you actually stand to win something, but even then, why would the best pictures not win? it’s up to spyderco to choose how their products are portrayed. it would be ridiculous to suggest anything different.

at any rate, it’s supposed to be fun. people getting bent out of shape over silliness will reduce participation faster than winners forgetting to judge the next weeks submissions.

I have to admit I like this thread, and some of the photos are great. I enjoy seeing some of the older knives, some of the more uncommon sprint runs, but mostly just seeing knives out and about. Every now and then I am remiss and may have to look over a couple weeks worth to catch up on what I missed. There is always something that piques my interest when looking through so many photos, and that one photo brings me back. One day I may get brave enough to post a photo, hopefully not too blurry.

please do. lots of us have improved our photography by just participating. it’s fun and it encourages you to look at the world around you differently. i love looking at the photos too and being pushed by the feeling of arbitrary competition. :)

Wow! Thank you Pointy britches! My first win ever. :D I know it’s short, but I will pick the next winner THIS Sunday night. Help get back on track with the weekly deadline. Thanks again Pointy britches. It’s quite the honor. :spyder:

Catching up on the thread and thought I'd add my first post to the forum was in this thread and I won :D but when I picked the winners the following week my post was stuck in moderation for a few days so I PM'd the previous winner to let them know (don't remember who it was) and in true Spyderco forum spirit they said no worries and they let everyone know that I didn't bail out. This is truly one of the nicest places on the internet!
