IIRC Sal mentioned that they tested horn (not sure from what animal, I guess buffalo or something other) and they found that change in humidity effects it badly - warping and so on. Antler is much more stable and IMO more suited towards as a handle material.....But, I am not sure how it would look like on such a thin scales, but there are lot of traditional knives that have antler handle.
Brass/copper/bronze is fun, but it would make it heavy as rock.....but some people like that aspect I guess.
