New to Spyderco/forum, and help request

#1

Post by Chrono »

Hello, all. I’m relatively new to Spyderco, and completely new to the forum. I own a Para 2 that I absolutely love, and my son really liked it, too. So, my dad bought him a Para 3 off of Amazon, but he doesn’t remember who the actual seller was. I’m a little concerned it may not be a legitimate Spyderco, as I’ve read there are a lot of fakes out there. I’ve included photos of the box label, and the Para 3 next to my Para 2 (which I know it real because I bought it from a legit dealer). Any help in figuring out if my son’s knife is legitimate is greatly appreciated!

I'm also not an expert, but I own several para 3's and based on those pics it looks legit to me. Welcome and enjoy those spydies!

That's kind of what had me concerned about it. The blade is sharp, but the action on it isn't nearly as smooth as my Para 2, even when it was brand new. Then I started reading about how many fakes there are of Sypderco knives. I can't see anything that would indicate it isn't genuine, but I figured I should check with folks that can identify anything that might seem off.

Action of the knife is no way to determine if it's fake or not. I've had 7 different Para 3's and some were too tight or needed a bit of cleaning. Once tuned up, they all functioned the same. I agree with the others, looks legit. Just might need a little tweaking to get it where he likes.

Best way to be certain is to mail it to Golden and have them check it out.

I have multiple para 3s and the action is always unique.
Some where perfect from th beginning others needed time/use to get smoother.

Fake ones will have a bad blade steel - dull easy, bad to sharpen.

I also never heard of para 3 fakes.
