Another from EM...

“Yes, we are working on a straight razor. We've had a few provide samples in the past, but we always passed for a variety of reasons.
this time I decided to give it a try. The design is from Dr. Mike Blue, whom I've known for many years back from the Guild days. We're also planning on O1 in Bainite, in additoon to other steels. Mike, Ed Schempp and Howard Clark are working on a heat treating system for me with Salt pots to achieve the Bainite heat treatment.

From the small discussion in Byrd subforum - What would you like to see from byrd next - we were discussing a larger Starling 2 version.

Hope all you who support handle to the edge see it - this is important news:

The question in my design philosophy would be the amount of purchase that you have to control the blade at a particular length. In some of my designs like the Lil' Temperance and the Caribbean designs, I do bring the handle to the edge without a kick ( like the basic Endura family ) or a a finger choil. But they are not lock-backs. I would have to modify the Starling design quite a bit to serve your request. It's possible. I have a new design coming out soon called the "Rock Jumper" that is a lock-back that brings the handle to the edge. I'll watch reaction to that new design.

Lock-backs have the strongest self close and some of our customers find that as a high value.

I'll watch for other comments.

A second mention to Rock Jumper! This is becoming more exciting by the day :D

On the Endela, I softened the "Points" to accommodate those that were complaining. On the Stretch 2, I just used a swell with no points. the Endura 4 still outsells both combined, though it's still early in the cycle.

The Straight spine stretch had the swell (no points ) and the finger choil and it sold out quickly, but it was made as a sprint which, in my opinion, affected the experiment. The "Rock Jumper" uses the "swell" instead of the "points" and should be out soon. I'm also working of a 4.0" blade Stretch 2 with a straight spine.

A 4" straight spine stretch sounds interesting, but wouldn't that be direct competition for the P4 lightweight?

I've started a Rock Jumper thread here - viewtopic.php?f=2&t=85940 - so we don't clutter up this thread and a few others where's it's been mentioned as a side note.

100% speculation on my part, but I would think no it wouldn't.... I own the P4, P4 LW, Stretch, and Stretch2, all of which have have different ergos, for it's size the Stretch2 is the best feeling in my big paws (I have VERY wide (not fat) hands) of any FRN, followed by the P4 LW -- the P4 G10 and Ulize fit my hands best of any Spydies, followed by the Shaman.... The whole concept of a Stretch2-ish FRN handle that accommodates a blade nearly the size of the P4 sounds about like the best possible thing I could imagine in terms of an FRN EDC, I will buy two of them the second they hit the market, without a doubt... fingers crossed (please please please use 4v, Cruwear, K390, or Rex45 in one version at least....) and for Wartstein's sake, an SE version too...

;) :)

I have a proto of a 3.5" blade UK with a full flat leaf blade.

We're looking into possible production.

Yowza!
I'm happiest with Micarta and Tool Steel.

Top four in rotation: K390 + GCM PM2, ZCarta Shaman, Crucarta PM2, K390 + GCM Straight Spine Stretch.

I think Sal is reading my mind. I was looking to buy an Autonomy 2 TODAY and I told myself that would be awesome in CF, but there really isn’t a way to do aftermarket scales. Please, please, please Sal do a peel-ply CF Autonomy 2 or even a Caribbean!

Now, we just need a Caribbean with contoured CF, machined with the same grip pattern.

I've been trying, unsuccessfully, to get some made custom...

My only hope seems to be Spyderco!

I spoke with management today and we'll plan on bringing the Delica ad D'fly in pink back into the line. We'll have to change something so as not to hurt earlier models. Maybe a blade shape change. Still full flat.

We'll look at other models after watching demand.
