Your favorite handle shape

#1

Post by gull wing »

Some handles are just ok, some are darn right terrible, then a few just seem to melt in your hand. What is your best handle?
My number one is Para 3 Lightweight - I know, FRN is not my favorite handle material, but in this knife, it's "a package".
The knife is light, and balanced. :)
Number two Brouwer It's the size on this one that does it for me. I have a small hand and this one fills it.

Nothing beats my Proficient period!

But, if I had to pick a folder it would be the Magnitude, it just fills my hands so nicely!

Folding, for me, definitely the Stretch I, man I love how that knife fits/feels in my hand, and works so well.
Fixed, I'll second the: Bushcraft. Such a great knife to hold and use, and also works so dang well.

'course there's quite a few I've never put hands on too though...

I honestly don't know if I could choose one handle shape as my favorite. I can usually find things I like about most Spyderco.

The Stretch 1 is one of the first that comes to mind as one of the most comfortable folders I own. It's definitely one of my favorites. The Native 5 is also up there in terms of "perfect" fit for myself. Also, counting fixed blades, the Zoomer is potentially the most ergonomic and comfortable knife I own!

I wouldn't necessarily consider it a favorite, but the Caly 3 is another that just seems to fit my hand really well.

There are also a lot of other Spydercos that I've held and liked a lot. Like Dazen said, the Magnitude feels incredible in hand. The Mamba is another that kind of flew under the radar but was wicked ergonomic! :spyder:

Caribbean, Lil Temp 3, D'Allara 2 are my top 3 handle designs. I'd be happy if every knife I own were built this way.

Honorable mentions, Yojimbo 2, Shaman, Autonomy, Caly 3 (really the whole Calypso family), Vallotton Sub-Hilt.

Native 5, Manix 2, Caly 3 would be my top 3 with the Delica and endura not far behind.

My top 3 just feel like they melt in my hand.

I would have to say the Manix 2, with the delica in a close second. I haven't had the pleasure of handling a Para2 or Para3. We don't really have shops that carry knives of any sort of quality close by. The Manix 2 however just seems to meld into my hand.

The Caribbean is my favorite on a folder, the Street Beat for a fixed blade.

Overall, the Caribbean would be the winner.

My favorite "style" is what I refer to as the "suitcase grip" handle, because the handles on older suitcases were often shaped that way. Examples include all versions of the Stretch, later versions of the C14 Rescue, Atlantic Salt, the Adventura, and the Schempp Persian. Among those, my customized lignum vitae version of the original Stretch is still has the most perfect size and feel for me. It feels "just right" in my hand.
